One week out from the NHL Draft in Las Vegas, there continue to be rumors regarding Mitch Marner and trades, Mitch Marner and extensions, but we will save that for another day. The Leafs related news on Friday sees longtime Marlie Rich Clune departing the Toronto organization to join former Leafs assistant Greg Cronin’s staff with the Anaheim Ducks.
The 37-year-old joined the Leafs in 2015 and split time between the AHL and NHL that season before becoming a full time Marlie in 2016. Clune was a member of the 2018 Calder Cup winning squad and later captained the Marlies for two seasons before retiring in 2022, and serving as a development coach for two seasons and an AHL assistant last year.

In other news, Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star reported on Friday that former Norris Trophy winner Mark Giordano is looking to continue his NHL career, even if that means playing elsewhere.
“Mark has made the decision that he’s playing for a few more years,” agent Rich Winter told McGran. “He feels very confident. He’s been talking to a lot of people who tell him: Don’t quit until they make you.”
The 40-year-old had nine points (3 goals, six assists) in 46 games last season, in part because of a serious concussion, and did not suit up for the Leafs in the playoffs. On his show on FAN 590 on Friday, Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek speculated on the possibility that Giordano could latch on with the San Jose Sharks, who are looking for quality veterans to surround and provide a support structure to 2024 top overall pick Macklin Celebrini and 2023 first rounder Will Smith.
