It has become crystal clear: this season’s edition of the Montreal Canadiens runs extremely hot or bitterly cold. There has been no middle ground. Describe them how you will -- bipolar, Jekyll and Hyde – the 2024-25 Canadiens have taken their fans on a rollercoaster of highs and lows this season.
From ‘hottest team in the NHL’ around the holiday season to losing eight of nine games before the February break, and then starting the cycle again. Montreal had the best record in the NHL following the 4 Nations tournament followed by a five-game losing streak.

Since then, Montreal has gone on a five-game winning streak to tighten their grip on the final wild card spot in the Eastern conference. Prior to Sunday night's game in Nashville, the Habs had an 84.1 per cent chance of making the playoffs according to MoneyPuck.
It hasn't always been pretty. In fact, a source within the organization described their past week as charmed. And against the 30th place Nashville Predators, the visitors were not the better team.
It was a superb outing by goaltender Jakub Dobes who made 36 saves for a .973 save percentage on the night. Cole Caufield and Patrik Laine supplied the offense with Laine notching his 20th goal of the season.
