The Trois-Rivieres Lions were at Colisee Videotron for a three-game weekend as the Maine Mariners (Boston Bruins) visited on Friday, followed with a doubleheader against the Worcester Railers (New York Islanders)
Friday: Maine Mariners 1 - Trois-Rivieres Lions 4
The Lions opened the scoring with consecutive goals scored by Jakov Novak in the first and a power play goal by Xavier Cormier for the lead through 40 minutes. Logan Nijhoff made it a two-goal lead again, 17 seconds after the Mariners cut the lead to one goal. Anthony Beauchamp sealed the victory with an empty net goal.
“We had some good stretches in the first, but after that we moved away from our structure. It wasn't our best game. [Luke] Cavallin saved us a few times. We will take the win, but we have to learn. We won’t win often playing like that,” coach and general manager Ron Choules said.
“It’s difficult to win, but this victory is a bit like a defeat for me. We will have to be better. We showed some great things, but we shot ourselves in the foot too often.”
Trois-Rivieres led 2-0 midway through the second period thanks to a pair of goals, including one on the power play, by Jakov Novak. Indiscipline was costly for Choules’ squad as Worcester scored two power play goals in 4:33 to tie the game. Nijhoff and Jonathan Yantsis put the home team ahead with consecutive goals, however the Railers fought back with a pair of goals before the end of regulation and forced extra time. The visitors obtained the second point for the standings courtesy of a goal with 22 seconds remaining in overtime.
Logan Nijhoff opened the scoring midway through the second period with his third goal of the weekend. It was 1-1 late into the third period when Nicolas Guay broke the tie with a power play goal. Anthony Beauregard made the win official with an empty net goal for his third point of the contest.
