Evgeni Malkin is going to miss the start of the regular season and then some. Sidney Crosby might be joining him. The Penguins captain is had surgery and will miss a minimum of six weeks
So, yeah...
On one hand it is a good thing for Sid to get this procedure done. He does have a history with this injury. It is the right decision for the long haul. However, I just can’t understand the timing of it. The Penguins haven’t played in months. They knew Evgeni Malkin would be out to start the year. Why wasn’t this done sooner? The room for error with this team has shrunk each year from poor roster choices, but it also shrinks as the star players get older. Hopefully the timeline is accurate and not longer because the Penguins absolutely cannot afford to play chunks of the year without both Crosby and Malkin.
In an offseason with minimal positives this certainly isn’t going to help.
