Injury Issues Becoming Funny

Tonight Ryan Nugent Hopkins will be out due to illness and the Edmonton Oilers are limping instead of sprinting to the finish line. Tonight the Oilers will ice a 42 million dollar roster with McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, Ekholm, Skinner, Kane, and Frederic all out of the lineup.

My mind goes to the meme of wrestler Kevin Nash in a wheelchair with a broken leg, suddenly standing up and ready to go. I don't see the Oilers suddenly getting these players back and looking like a Stanley Cup contender.

After the season is over I am sure we will be taking a long look at the job that Bowman and Jackson did with this team over the summer and in the season. From poor signings to a mismanagement of players this has not been a good year for the Oilers front office. They looked at the Stanley Cup Finals roster from last season and believed that the complimentary efforts of players like Henrique and Janmark were what rounded out this roster instead of youth, speed, and skill in the likes of Broberg, Holloway, and McLeod. Now this is a roster that doesn't look improved from last year, but simply a year older.

A game like tonight would be a perfect opportunity to try out a player like Matt Savoie but due to the Oilers cap management he cannot be brought up so we will see Philp instead. It's a good thing that Edmonton didn't match the 2.2 million for Holloway so they could accrue cap space and sign Klingberg and Kapanen.

There is no reason why we shouldn't expect another ugly came tonight with so many players out of the lineup. The Blues are without Holloway for some time now but are 9-1-0 in their last 10 having just lost to the Jets but the Blues are still fighting with the Wild for top Wild Card position and to stay ahead of the likes of the Flames and Canucks.

Things are looking ugly on the horizon...

Thanks for reading.
