Should The Kraken Trade or Keep Jordan Eberle? |

At this stage of the season, it's looking unlikely like the Seattle Kraken are going to make the playoffs. They currently sit seven points out of a Wild Card position with less than 2 weeks until the trade deadline.
Seattle has a very pending free agents that could be valuable pieces for playoff teams. Alex Wennberg is one such player, especially with the premium that has been placed on centres this season. If the likes of Monahan can get a 1st round pick than Wennberg certainly should as well. Justin Schultz is also a pending UFA and as a right shot would be of interest to a number of teams.
Another player who is a pending UFA is Jordan Eberle. While Eberle has been linked to some teams such as his first team, the Edmonton Oilers, there has also been talks about the Kraken trying to extend the forward.
Eberle is 33 years old and while he isn't as productive a scorer as he was in his prime, he is still a versatile player who can produce regardless of where he is in the lineup. Any extension would likely be in the 2-3 year range at under 5 million. That is a signing I would have all the time in the world for if I am Ron Francis.
Eberle is a skilled veteran and you need players like that around the budding young core that Seattle is trying to build. Another facet... the captaincy looms on the horizon. Matty Beniers was at one point a given to be the next captain for the Kraken. Now as he struggles through his sophomore season, it seems like throwing another responsibility at him is not the best course of action.
If the Kraken can sign Eberle and make him captain for a couple seasons, it gives the young players like Beniers and hopefully Wright a chance to continue to grow and develop and then take the captaincy when they are ready.
We are less than a couple weeks away from the trade deadline. We will know soon enough what the team decides to do with the right winger.
