The Display Case #1: The "Frankenstick"!

One of the most interesting things about collectibles in my mind is that there is no clear consensus on what a collectible truly is. Rather, it is completely reliant on whether or not someone chooses to collect it or not. Simply put, if someone collects it, it’s a collectible, whether we may choose to look at it that way or not! This makes for one of the more enjoyable aspects of the hobby which is checking out other people’s collections and getting an idea as to what their prized possessions are. It may be the type of thing we would love to have to display in our den, or it may be something that we would have never considered saving/displaying in the first place. Either way it’s a peek into a unique corner of the collectibles world by way of someone else’s swag!

It is with this in mind that I introduce a new series of columns called “Display Case” where readers will have the opportunity to share their favourite piece of memorabilia or collectible and showcase it to us all here at Hockeybuzz. Not only will we have a chance to see some unique pieces that others have acquired, but also hear the stories behind them, which can oftentimes overshadow the actual item(s) itself!

For our first edition we have an interesting piece of used equipment with an interesting story behind it!

The Display Case #1: The “Frankenstick”

This submission comes to use via Theresa Hofacre, Boston Bruins correspondent for The Fourth Period. Here she gives us the story behind this monstrosity!

A little about Frankenstick. I found it at the Bruins pro shop and paid $40 for it because I thought it was kind of interesting and I have quite a few sticks. I noticed that it had Andrew Alberts's name and number scribbled out, but a #22 drawn on it, and at the time that was (Shean) Donovan's number. I asked him about it and he told me that it was a "crazy creation that Savvy made." Marc Savard made it for him at practice one day out of other people's stick parts.

Fantastic, eh? Not only is it a sweet piece of game-used memorabilia for a Boston fan, but it comes with an absolutely unique and interesting story behind it! I love it! Thanks Theresa for sharing this with us!

Now the question becomes readers: Do YOU have anything you feel is worthy of being featured in the Display Case? I’ll answer it for you: YES! You DO! Just send me some pics of your favourite collectible, or maybe the one with the most interesting story behind it, and a little blurb explaining why it’s your fav/most interesting and you could be featured in a future post! Just send it off to my email listed below and you’re set.

Cheers!
