General Manager Updates

In a report by Elliotte Friedman from Sportsnet, the Blackhawks are interested in Toronto Raptors Vice President of Basketball Operations Teresa Resch as a candidate for the general manager position. She would be the 7th candidate to be interviewed.

A looming question is what happens with interim general manager Kyle Davidson if he doesn't become permanent. When Stan Bowman was at the helm, he had a trio of assistant GMs in Davidson (hockey strategy), Mark Eaton (player development), and Ryan Stewart (pro evaluation).

If Davidson doesn't get the interim tag removed, does he remain in the organization by returning to his role as an assistant GM overseeing hockey strategy which encompasses analytics? But if he does get promoted to the eternal gig, does he get to hire his replacement?

Assuming for a second that Davidson is the next Blackhawks GM, a potential successor to oversee analytics would be CapFriendly founder Dominik Zrim who is on team payroll as manager of hockey strategy. Or could the Hawks look to GM candidate Eric Tulsky?

Also, if Davidson is the chosen one, does he get the green light to clean house if he wants to? Would he retain Eaton and Stewart in their current roles as assistant GMs? Would Mark Kelley stay as head of amateur scouting? And, of course, who would he hire as head coach?

Roster Updates

Interim head coach Derek King confirmed yesterday that Arvid Soderblom will get the start versus the Blue Jackets tonight then hand the reins back over to Marc-Andre Fleury who will be between the pipes on Friday against the Stars and Sunday against the Panthers.

* Kevin Lankinen will start to take shots in practice next week.

* Riley Stillman is slated to return before the end of the month.

* Tyler Johnson could return by then, too, but more realistically in early March.

* Jonathan Toews and Jujhar Khaira still have no timetable for being cleared to play again.
