After bringing their A-game the other night against the Jets, the Canucks decided to bring their B-game to a pivotal game against the Blues. The Canucks were sloppy, bobbling passes and missing assignments. There were some bright spots on the evening: Lankinen was great again, Boeser potted another two goals with an amazing last second howizer to tie the game up, the team battled back to earn a point… but overall it wasn’t the best effort when the team needs to be bringing their best every night. Very frustrating for fans to figure this team out.

But, right now, the team sits one point out of a playoff spot with a game in hand, so not the worst. If you missed the game…:

The Canucks are now 5-11 in OT. That is not so good. On the plus side, all those loser points are keeping them in the race. On the negative, if they were better in OT they wouldn’t be in this final ward card shootout and would probably be fighting LA for third in the division. Oh well.

Frustrating times for fans, frustrating times for Tocc.

“There were certain parts of our game we liked, the energy,” Tocchet said, “but there were pockets where we just didn’t have enough energy. Great to get the tie, but then a couple miscues in overtime. It was a little sloppy game for us. There was good parts to it, but some sloppiness that we’ve got to clean up.”

The boys are in do-or-die every night from here on out. They need to start stringing things together. Petey’s playing better (though lots of room left on that), Boeser has been stepping up the last couple games, Demko should be back on this road trip, and Hughes is continuing to do Hughes things. But everyone needs to elevate.

“It’s a playoff game,” Sherwood said. “(Great) resiliency and character to come back. We’ve still got to figure out our overtimes obviously, but we’re still looking for 60 minutes. When we put our foot on the gas, we showed what we can do like the other night against Winnipeg (6-2 win on Tuesday). It wasn’t enough tonight. But it was good character and grit to tie it up. We’ve got to be better for a full 60.”

The Canucks will be facing off against old teammates on Saturday, as they take on JT Miller, Soucy, and the New York Rangers. It’s a morning game for you all, so we’ll see what kind of energy the team brings.
