The Columbus Blue Jackets have loaded the Cleveland Monsters with the paper moves of forwards Mikael Pyyhita and Joseph LaBate Jr. on the offense; and defender Denton Mateychuk to help the Land in their quest for the Calder Cup.
The Columbus Blue Jackets also added forward Christian Fischer off the waiver wire from the Detroit Red Wings. Fischer and Werenski played together in the US National Development Program in 2013-2015. Fischer also played in Arizona, Detroit, and Europe professionally. The Chicago native has one goal and 6 assists in 45 games with Detroit this season.
The Blue Jackets have acquired forward Luke Kunin in their only trade of the trade deadline from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the St. Louis Blues’ owned fourth round draft selection in the upcoming 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Kunin has 11 goals and 7 assists in 63 games with San Jose this season. Kunin has been under Dean Evason’s advisement in Minnesota when they were there together. He also played with Gudbranson, Fabbro and Olivier in Nashville; and with Labanc last season in San Jose. The Missouri native and Type I diabetic also was teammates with newcomer Fischer and Werenski in the development program.
Both Kunin and Fischer are pending unrestricted free agents.
#CBJ parted with a fourth-round pick in 2025 to acquire Luke Kunin from San Jose. #TheFutureIsTeal.
Not sure yet if it's CBJ's own pick or the pick they acquired from St. Louis for Alexandre Texier.
