The Columbus Blue Jackets’ season continues to hold on by a thread thanks to goaltender Jet Greaves. Three unanswered goals by the Jackets led to a 3-2 regulation victory over Buffalo.

Period I

The Buffalo Sabres scored two goals in 2:45 of each other after the halfway mark of the opening frame.

Pending RFA JJ Peterka opened the scoring with his 25th goal of the season from former Oilers’ forward Ryan McLeod and captain Rasmus Dahlin.

Rasmus Dahlin had the go ahead goal earning himself his 16th goal of the season. The highest paid Buffalo skater’s goal was supported by youngsters Zach Benson and Jiri Kulich.

James van Riemsdyk hit the backhand with only 9 seconds remaining in the first for his 15th goal of the season assisted by former Michigan skaters Kent Johnson and Zach Werenski.

Period II

25 shots in the second with zero penalties; Buffalo outshot Columbus 18-7.

Period III

Columbus had two goals in 6:42 to earn the two points.

Zach Aston-Reese recorded the game tying goal for his sixth goal the season and career tying 17th point. Erik Gudbranson had the lone apple.

Captain Boone Jenner had the power play game winner goal for his seventh of the campaign from Kirill Marchenko and Sean Monahan.

Goaltenders

James Reimer saved 27 of 30 shots for a 0.900 save percentage.

Jet Greaves saved 39 of 41 shots faced for a 0.951 save percentage.

Players to Watch

BUF — Tage Thompson — the forward ended his five game goal scoring streak; he had three shots on goal in 18:16TOI.

CBJ — Sean Monahan — the center tied his assist total with 33 in the season. Monny is at 51 points.
