The Ottawa Senators’ winning streak comes to an end at five as the Tampa Bay Lightning hold on to defeat the Sens by the final score of 4-3 in regulation.

Period I

Eric Cernak gets an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Matthew Highmore; and the Senators’ powerplay made it work on their first attempt. Forward Michael Amadio got the first goal of the evening and his fourth with the Senators’ as Ridly Greig and David Perron had the assists.

Period II

Luke Glendenning got the home team on the board for the first time tonight as he recorded his third of the season from Elle Lindberg and Nick Prebix.

Nikita Kucherov got the Bolts’ their first lead of the evening with the extra man due to the Tkachuk infraction. Kucherov’s 25th goal of the year was supported by captain of both Tampa and Sweden, Victor Hedman.

Claude Giroux responded to get the visitors evened up. Giroux’s point streak continues to stand for 6 games (2G, 5A) with his 11th of the season and 32nd in his Senators’ career. Thomas Chabot and Tim Stützle got themselves the assists.

Period III

Brandon Hagel opened the third period with a go-ahead goal unasssited for his 23rd this season.

Ryan McDonagh put the game away on the empty net with his second of the year from Hedman and Anthony Cirelli.

Drake Batherson tried to get his team in it late with his 16th of the season from Sanderson and Chabot. Sanderson is also riding a six game point streak with 10 points over this stretch.

Goaltenders

Andrei Vaslievsky had 25 saves on 28 shots for a 0.893 save percentage.

Linus Ullmark had 34 saves on 37 shots for a 0.919 save percentage.

Sens’ Three Stars of the Game

1. Claude Giroux — goal (11)
2. Michael Amadio — PPG (4)
3. Jake Sanderson — assist (30)

Next Game

Rematch Thursday; every point for the Sens matters; and not allowing Tampa to earn anymore will be a massive help in the playoff race in the Eastern Conference.
