Shane Pinto matches his career best season after a two goal performance to keep the final wild spot up for grabs in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The final score was 5-3 for the Sens over the Habs.
Period I
The Senators did not waste time with getting on the scoreboard in this one against the Habs. Shane Pinto recorded the opening goal with only 28 seconds erased from the start clock. The Hobey Baker finalist’s 19th of the regular season was supported by line-mates Ridly Greig and Mikey Amadio.
Another 3:50 was removed before the Sens doubled their lead courtesy of deadline pickup Dylan Cozens. The workhorse got his 15th of the campaign and 4th of his Ottawa career. The young defensive duo of Nick Matinpalo and Tyler Kleven had the helpers.
Period II
Grieg got the Senators’ third straight goal in the contest to tie his career high 13th goal of the regular season 65 seconds in. Amadio and Jake Sanderson had the helpers.
Christian Dvorak answered for the visitors for his 12th of the regular season from Joel Armia and Jayden Struble.
Drake Batherson regained the three goal lead for his 23rd of the campaign courtesy of Thomas Chabot and Nick Jensen.
Montreal captain and player to watch, center Nick Suzuki, got his club back to a two goal deficit for his 29th of the regular season from Juraj Slafkovsky and Cole Caufield. This was the last goal scored on a goaltender.
Period III
Pinto potted the empty net with 2:16 remaining in regulation for his second of the night and 20th of the campaign. Artem Zub had the helper.

Montreal and Team Canada goalie Samuel Montembault allowed 4 goals on 33 shots against for a 0.879 save percentage. All four goals were allowed before the end of 40.
Linus Ullmark saved 20 of 22 shots for a 0.909 save percentage.
Players to Watch
Montreal captain Nick Suzuki is on a seven game point streak after the second and final
goal for his team in the loss to the Senators. He is having the best season of his career with 87 points in 77 games.
Ottawa — Angus Crookshank was a late scratch for Hayden Hodgson, who was known for his last season preseason incident with former Senators’ draft pick Mark Stone.
