JJ, any news about your previous posts mentionning Chicago and Montreal talking? RE: Stalberg in another sweater, I imaging he goes with Montador or Frolik to sweeten the deal? - ikeane

You just won't accept the obvious will you. You, me and our grandmothers may think this team needs a 2C, but the powers that run the Hawks don't. They have Toews, Sharp, Kane, Bolland, Kruger, Pirri, McNeill, Danault, Flick and Mayers to fill 4 center positions. Thats it, end of story, finito, not gonna change.
Do you not think Bowman could have put a better package together for Nash - for sure he could have, but Nash didn't have the Hawks on his list, for whatever reason.
Could they have gotten Parise and Suter, sure just offer up $120 million to each guy and destroy the salary structure of your team for years.
Why not chase Jokinen for the 2C spot - because he stinks thats why.
Why not do a deal for Luongo? Because he isn't worth what Gillis is asking for him right now, Maybe in a month or 2.
You want to name guys who have sat on their fat asses and done nothing - what the hell has Ken Holland, Doug Wilson and Brian Burke done this summer? As much or less than Bowman.
Action is only appropriate if it makes sense at the time. What Holmgren and the Flyers have done is aggressive, but it hasn't made the team better.
That all said, I still want Stan Bowman Jr. to be the ex-General Manager and the sooner the better. - RickJ
One at a time:
2C - other than Toews, who on your list is a proven top-6 center? Kane did it reasonably well for about a month, Sharp has been OK, but doesn't want to do it, Bolland is your 3C, the rest....
Why wasn't Chicago on Nash's list? That's my "story of the summer", and Rocky needs to understand it.
Parise and Suter - you're probably right, but I believe in going for it now and dealing with the salary structure later (although probably would not have gotten P and S under any circumstance). Let's see if they screw up the salary structure in three years to resign Toews and Kane.
Jokinen - agree, but then get someone else. Have to give Saad and/or other prospects in a trade that also creates a whole someplace else? OK - then make another move to fill that hole.
Luongo - I agree about the current cost.
Holland, Wilson & Burke - I don't care what they do or don't do - I care about what Bowman does. If no one else is active, perhaps it's easier for you to be active, aggressive, creative.
Two years with one-and-dones - looking at a third if nothing changes - can't count on going deep with this roster a good portion of which has never consistently done what Bowman is expecting them to do. |

I am really surprised by the lack of movement league-wide. With such a poor crop of free agents and a lot of unhappy star players, I did expect more big trades. It is still early, though. Plus all the cba uncertainty. It is hard being a fan. Maybe we see more movement closer to training camp |

how much room do we have?? all i know is what alot of others have been saying,........"We need another M"F'n top flight goalie" ! we're built to win now , not 8 years from now when these other kids hit their prime!! the only 2 out there who could be had right now are god dam luongo & giguere!! take your F'n pick stan!
i"m all for bringing in doan ,then what! watch him get frustrated as crawford lets beachballs past him all season!!
kind of like todays cub game, 6 runs should be enough to win the flucking game...but not when your pitcher sets the table with gopher balls the first 5 innings! same with crawford!!
if stan was such a so called capologist, he'll find a way to fit stuff in!

You are overestimating Stan's capablities.
Absolutely never put a bean counter in charge of making big moves for a company because none of them have the balls to fail. You get somebody with a vision and the conviction to make whatever the move is and then go down to Stan's basement office and hand him what you have done on a wet cocktail napkin and tell him to make it work numbers wise.

I bet Shane had dull time with Toews. Hawks should´ve put Kane to host Doans quiet visit. At least there would have been some serious fun with limo rides to drinking games. |

In all seriousness though , I bet if Doan leaves PHX its for Chicago or Pittsburgh. I think Doan has the most respect for Toews and Crosby as leaders. Doan has been the Captain of that franchise for a very long time , I think if he isnt going to be the Captain he only wants to play with a Captain's Captain, and thats Toews and Crosby. Just my opinion. |

That's how I figured things went under Tallon. Talllon would go to Stan to see how to fit things like Campbell and Huet uinder the cap. Stan failed badly |

Agreed, but can't happen with an egomaniacal, control freak as the GM's boss.
That's how you end up with the timid, afraid to fail, "ask for permission" bean counter as GM.

Only way Bowman can offer sheet E. Kane is to give him a Weber like contract. over 7.5 mil a year and it would cost Chicago the next 4 1st round picks. Is that what you are proposing MrP?Winnipeg already has the 2nd and 3rd for next year, and Oduya in in Chicago because of it. |

I wonder if the Jets wanted 2013 picks from us in the Oduya deal to eliminate us as a threat to signing Kane to an offer sheet. |

If I am Chevy and know Chicago wants a young PWF, I make sure that the Hawks don't have the picks to offer sheet him.

Rant Sports came out with their list of 5 players Chicago may trade before the end of summer:
http://www.rantsports.com...-out-on-the-trade-market/
2 words....well DUH! - ikeane
Never heard of Rant Sports, but it is a pretty nice piece. Where I take issue with it is in Randy Holt's assumption that Patrick Kane isn't going anywhere. No, he might not be. But Randy doesn't talk to the same people I do (evidently) and the people I talk to, who are closer to the real poop than Randy is, say Kane can and very well might be dealt at some point. Randy sounds like a One Goaler when he puts stuff like that out there.
