I wanted to move Sharp for Statsny when they were talking about him being "available" last year.
NMC makes that a problem and this organization does not like to part with its chosen ones.
If they are also sold as Kane at 2C and billing that as their genius idea that could prove a potential problem for acquiring one or at least a reason in their minds as they are so much smarter than everyone else. - fattybeef
You talk to Sharp, and Ill talk to Stastny, we can hammer this deal out. I would love to add Hjalmarsson too, but I dont think we have the pieces to make that work too, unless getting a cheaper Dman like O'Bryne and a guy like Kobasew can sweeten the pot |

>JJ, as always, great insights and scoop
>Safe to say the Hawks on the ice the last two years lacked that special "mojo" of a championship team (besides the roster holes)
>Last year was also probably Q's worst or one of the worst coaching years of his career
>Net result: Hawks play maybe six, 60-minute games the entire season
>Doan is a perfect fit for the Hawks: will get top minutes, fills a real team need, would be a great team to end career with, can make the biggest impact, fits with all the western Canadian boys, and his presence on the Hawks gives Doan a great chance to win a Cup
>Chicago as a town is also a perfect fit -- big enough to enjoy all a big city has to offer, rabid fan-base, but its Midwestern charm gives players the chance to be as visible or invisible as they wish
>Here's hoping Doan is smart enough to see that Chicago is perfect for him, too |

If he's looking for $15M for the next two years, give him 4 years at $2M each with an $11M signing bonus or something like that. That would drop the cap hit down under $5M. It depends upon how long he really plans to play. - NewToHockey

It seems our GM doesn't have the balls to pull off a trade.
Myself, I'd have some interest in Morrow at the trade deadline, if he is injury free. - EKolb13
He would look good with Toews, I think Morrow is the odd man out winger out on that team |

Dallas added Jagr and Whitney. I thought they were trying to start a grey-beard team in Texas.
They'll need Morrow for that. |

Good reasoning Mike....fact is Doan can leverage the market and get all he wants because of his talent and character.....4 years at near $30 m....is too rich for me. - philco28
One year ago I would have agreed. but if our top 6 is toews doan stalberg..then Kane, Hoss sharp. Bottom 6 of Bollnd, Krug, shaw, bickell, bollig,Mayers, frolik, Hayes etc. ...that's a real nice fwd group-to win NOW with
I like Ogi's idea of Statsny..and we still could improve our lot in goal. But if it were Doan for 7.5/yr or nothing. I'll take Doan for the cash.
and welcome back Philco, now please call someone a pssuy (in all caps) so I can go back to work |

Usually they are, but I think in his "blog" today, those are Esplen's own proposals. - EKolb13
I put that WTF was I thinking proposal in of Frolik, Morin and McNeill for Lu and a pick if VAN signed doan and could not take back salary. As Eli pointed out the sun baked my skull with that idea. Esplen took that and replaced Morin with Johns as well as changing the word pick to a 3rd. |

I believe the 4yrs, $30 mil is what a team in the "East" is rumored to have offered Doan, not that he is necessarily looking for that amount. |

Love it..if the wings are Hoss and Sharp the 2C should be ok if its Krug, Kane or Bolland. Another way to put it; Doan allows us the flexibility to use the best option (and most insurance) of Sharp, kane, Krug or Bolland as our centers behind captain god. He may cost a lot. But a 4/5 yr commitment to him wont seem so bad if he helps us in the first couple of years. |

My take is this: why would we have signed Brookbank on the first day of FA if we didn't intend on using him in the game-by-game lineup? I understand that Montador's caphit is way too high for a scratch, but it makes Brookbank look like a worthless sign. And how do you think he feels about that? Of all the places to play, he picks the spot where he won't even be used? Just add more reason for players not to come to Chicago. |

Nah. dont overhink it. he's 5-7 dman wherever he goes. we needed one, we grabbed him. remember at the beginning of the summer Leddy, Hjarm, Monty were all possibilities to be moved. it was a good chess move. |

Stick Montador in as the 7th d-man? I don't know, do whatever floats your boat. Brookbank had to know coming in that he might be seeing time in the press box. |

Or a #7. Who cares where he falls? Montador or Brookbank are better options at #7 than Lepisto and O'Donnell. |

You get Doan, does that mean Sharp could be expendable? I like Sharp for Stastny kind of deal. - DDM-Coga
No, it just means we have 5 legitimate top 6 forwards instead of 4. If anyone would become expendable I would guess it would be Stalberg (assuming Frolik is already expendable). Stalberg might not go right away, but he may not be re-signed next summer (in my opinion). |
