I like it.....and I maybe the only one who likes Carcillo on the 3rd line...he and Bolland would be awesome to watch... - southernhawk
I was thinking a Carcillo-Bolland-Stalberg line could be troublesome for another team's defense. |

If the Hawks get Doan, forget about Statsny. At least for now. The Hawks with Doan could be a tough enough team as it is. Look to add to that at the trade deadline. |

Doan would make the Hawks a serious Cup contender, even with the goaltending issues. |

Just saying if Bolland goes in a deal for Statsny, and Hammer and Frolik are sent off for prospects/picks, Statsny and Doan could be a reality (if the GM evened the count instead of 2 strikes, no balls) . If Hannan takes a raise to 1.5 mil a year as the #4, I am liking everything about that lineup except between the pipes. Still leaves a hair over $2 mil in cap space. That is with the earlier rumor in this post about Doan wanting 7.5 a year |

Stalberg might not go right away, but he may not be re-signed next summer (in my opinion). - DarthKane
Bowman won't just let him walk. Stalberg would get traded before that happened. |

Really? That makes it too small. Theyd be goin against the Twins, Bergland/Backes/Perron. SJ. etc. Stalberg's speed alone would help keep those guys honest.
Doan would make Shaw expendable. Shaw's versatility is what makes him valuble to this team. But he takes too many penalties and is too small to be an effective 3rd/4th line player on this team (where his centers would be Bolland and Krger most likely) float from bottom 6 to top 6 as frequently.
Again, that is on this team if it had Doan on it. which I know sounds stupid. |

I have a feeling the season is going to start on time.
Right before CBA talks began Fehr said that the season could start with the old CBA in effect if the parties agree to continue to talk.
Apparently that clause was put into the old one so they have the ability to start the season without a new agreement in place. |

I wouldn't call Shaw expendable at all. The guy is an agitator. Someone is going to have to step in for Carcillo when he gets suspended or goes mad dog and blows up another body part. |

Here's the sticking point...If I'm Fehr I want the season to start on time for a number of reasons, the biggest is that his "hammer" will be the winter Classic game.
So they can continue talking but if nothing fruitful is happening the players will strike before Santa comes a knocking...

Owners would rather do it the opposite way and lose games early...They don't want to lose the Big House game. |

JJ, does the fact that Saad was not at the convention (thats what I thought I heard) change your theory that they're hyping up the prospects as a viable alternative to signing some stud FA's?
And is there any possibility that Toews might be willing to "loan" his "C" to Doan for a few years? - busmaster
My two cents, and the answer to both is NO. |

dont you think that would be bickell, though? If carbomb isnt on ice with bolland and stalberg (in the Doan-is-ours-dream) wouldnt you want Bickell? |

When did Bickell ever play the role of agitator? Most of the time you have to hope Bickell shows up wanting to play hockey. That's not a concern with Shaw. |

I see what you're getting at with that third line, but while Carcillo can aggravate I don't know how well he can fill the "shut down" role. If we sign Doan I'd suggest li e combos like this (assuming no further trades):
Sharp - Toews - Doan
Stalberg - Kane - Hossa
Shaw - Bolland - Frolik
Carcillo - Kruger - Bickell
Mayers
Frolik and Bickell could be swapped based on who is playing better at the time. Mayers would fill in for injury or maybe replace Kruger when we play a more physical team (ie St Louis). |

If I was a Hawks fan I don't think I would want the Hawks looking at trying to sign a 36 year old (even one as good as Doan) to a 4 or 5 year contract at $7.5 million a year (the rumored going offer). I was kind of glad the Wings apparently dropped out of the bidding because it's so high, paying a 38/39 year old $7.5 million is pretty risky.
The Hawks in particular seem like they already have a problem of too many people making star money so they have had to get rid of their quality second tier guys. And they guys they replaced them with haven't been getting the job done.
