To be fair, I don't know that Suter's agent ever had intentions of him coming here. It sounds like the agent played the hawks to build up the offer from others. Parise is probably in the same boat. I think they both wanted Min from the get go. - JRoenick97
...and I just noticed you said to the "bandwagon" fan. My apologies. |

Found this in Bob Verdi's Q&A with Jamie Kompn:
What is your power play philosophy?
In Los Angeles, when Terry Murray was coaching before Darryl, we had this study that showed 78 percent of power play goals are generated from the point, pounding the puck on net. The power play is like any other aspect of hockey. You have to have the parts, but you have to execute too. Those pretty passing plays that result in highlight power play goals you see replayed on SportsCenter and TSN are nice to watch, but how many of them are there? I believe the puck has to get to the net, and when you have success, it is contagious. It lifts the team at even strength, and it keeps the other team on eggshells. If you produce on the power play, the opposition is more careful about taking penalties. |

This actually makes sense. There's a ton of times the hawks always try that damn backdoor pass to Sharp and other teams knew it was coming. We do need Keith to actually hit the damn net though. |

You need someone to set the screen and battle for the scraps. That's a major issue with the hawks' pp. |

And how many times did edzo just say you don't even need to wind up and hammer it on net? Just a quick wrister tto get it on net to tip or guys in front to jam it home. Lidstrom was great at this. Most of our D take so much time winding up that it gives their forwards plenty of time to block it |

This is also a glaring issue. Can't Bickel just sack it up and be a power forward and use his skills? I know that's a wishful thought. Miss Big Buff for this one. |

The MLB seems to be a little more profitable than the NHL?
There seems to be some big differences between the big markets that have a solid fan base vs the markets that are barely if at all scraping by.
Especially if there is some kind of revenue sharing I could see it causing some waves on the ownership side. - fattybeef
MLB is much higher revenue than the NHL, but it's all about PnL. The difference between the have's and the have not's at the ownership level is what the real issue is about for any of these labour negotiations. |

I like what Doan has to offer, but I don't like the asking price. Unfortunately, he's the only big, powerful forward on the market that can still score. |

And there's been some serious overpayment this offseason. So they (the 'Hawks) have to decide: Doan, a trade now, a TDL deal, or hold the phone. |

Doesn't say anything about traffic near the crease where IIRC the cup winning teams of the last 5 years did pretty well; PP or otherwise. |

Thx Frank, but I don't think that's what he means.
I don't know (or really care) if my information is respected by other writers or bloggers.
I know this: when I broke the Kane wrist surgeryt hing last summer, a number of mainstream writers and bloggers took major shots at me (publicly) and many of them ended up eating crow (the cowardly ones privately and the gutsy, classy ones publicly).
Here's the other thing people need to understand about a lot of my information: 90% of it is about intentions and conversations only, not predictions of things that are going to actually happen. That's why, when I talk about the Hawks being in on Suter or Parise, but then they don't get either guy, it is so childish for people to say my sources are wrong. I never predicted the Hawks would definitely get either. All I reported was that I was hearing about the Hawks having interest, being in on it. And in both cases, it was true.
Finally, on stuff like what Rosen reports. I know the Hawks wanted to keep their interest in Doan low-key—to avoid another situation where expectations get built up, they don't get him and there's another #bowmanfail.
I know Rosen and Brian Hedger cover the Hawks closely for nhl.com. But in this case, i would not assume they know who's in and who's out. At all. - John Jaeckel
I try to tell people this all the time. I've never had to meticulously sift through your blogs and determine what is fact, what is rumor, and what is your informed conjecture. You ALWAYS make it apparent. In fact, whenever you are writing about rumor or your reasoned conjecture you usually write something along the lines of "this may or maynot happen"...or "It's only a rumor but.." You then give the reasons why a particular scenario will or will not happen along with your reasons (pro and con-that's the part I love) as to why it would or wouldnt. I'mn not sure what standard people are supposed to hold you to, but my friends and I read regularly and have no problem with you as a fan, writer, provacatuer or whatever. |

I agree, point shots are worth nothing without net presence...i.e. tips, screens, etc. |

Any new blogs coming JJ? Or shall we begin an ozone hole discussion?
I still like Als idea of trying for the other Kane in Winnipeg. Chevy knows the Hawks. Rather have EKane for 4 years at 7+ mil than Doan for the same money and term (think EKane would be 5.5-6 mil) |

No to that idea. Actually, that one receives a big HELL NO from me!
I've had enough of talk about (frank)ing sun cycles for quite awhile. |
