who cares, as long as it gets done. - miked23
I do. If McD is negotiating, he won't lose out Doan for low-balling him, that's for sure. |

Why would you give Sharp third line minutes? - EKolb13
I wouldn't. I don't really like labeling lines 1-4. I would roll the lines pretty evenly. Besides I think bolland got a lot of minutes the last few years. |

Stan might print the contract off his computer, but as I understand it, that would be the extent of his involvement in recruiting/landing Doan. - John Jaeckel

I watched probably 80% of the games, and sure at the beginning of the year the line with him, Kane & Hossa was probably the best on the team.
However, i think it was a mistake to bring him back, especially for 3 years when he has yet to prove that he can play a several game stretch without being a complete ass-hat.
His re-signing has allowed the Hawks to not really pursue anyone that could be considered a power forward, it's a continuation of last off season's "improved toughness" nonsense.
Don't get me wrong, though I don't care for the guy, I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he can contribute in meaningful ways. I will praise him if he "gets it", but i will also not back off if he takes stupid penalties, and gets league mandated vacation time.
For every Matt Cooke, there are probably 20 who can't figure it out. My money is on Carcillo being the second type.
Time will tell, I guess. - InvisibleOrange
Can someone please explain to me why we should use Cooke as an example of a guy who figured it out? First off, he wasn't playing for Pitt (who we all know is Bettman's pet project) he would have a target on his back, he has been playing ()if you call it playing) to long, and lastly, like Bertuzzi and Torres, he should not have been allowed to stay in the Player's Union. Cooke is and will always be a scum-bag, who deserves to be injured (badly) on the ice. Then we can call him an example. |

We need someone on the 3rd line to put in those back door one timers in the open side.... - southernhawk
Actually bolland has some offensive skills. Bolland and Shaw create a lot of offensive chances. I think having a finisher like Sharp can really make that line into something special. Again I would roll the top 3 lines pretty evenly. Obviously some would get around 19 minutes like Detroit plus a lot around 16-17 minutes. That is enough time to create offense |

This makes no (frank)ing sense. Dumbest thing I've heard all day, and I've already had a conversation with my wife about (frank)ing cupcakes.
You don't put a guy of Sharp's caliber on the 3rd line, unless you have six forwards on the team that are better than him. I get the concept of being able to roll 3 lines that can find the back of the net, but that third line is not going to have elite talent on it.
If Bowman can get Doan, it would make sense to me to have Stalberg on right wing alongside Bolland. That's who gets moved to the third line should Doan come to Chicago. |

But if you put Kane in the 3rd D pairing, we might get more scoring from the blueline

Putting Sharp on the 3rd line may not be the best idea if we get Doan (I suggested Stalberg) but its not totally without precident. Putting Havlat on the 3rd line was a similar move and coach Q put Sharp on the 4th line in the playoffs (game 6). I'd keep Sharp on 1st line, but I've heard worse ideas than putting him on the 3rd. |

>Are you hearing that Rocky realized that HE is the needed front office charisma?
>Rocky sells organization vision, what it means for an elite player to become part of the Blackhawk family; the "Blackhawk way" is much more credible from him than anyone else (see Flyers Ed Snider for an owner who sells)
>Toews sells leadership, Cup-winning experience and opportunity, other top players
>Stan now capologist/accountant for big free agent pursuits?
>McD now sells Hawk brand and mutters nothing hockey-specific to big free agents?

1. Q's a (frank)ing idiot.
2. Evenly dispersing the lines during the playoffs makes a little more sense. The playoffs are also a different animal than the regular season. |

It's the end product of a frustrating off season. I've found when things here get silly, it helps to zip over and check out the Leafs board. That place is Willy Wonka on LSD kinda crazy. helps keep the perspective, somewhat. |

Exactly. I guess there were 6 better forwards when havlat played with Bolland. Doan and Toews will still put up a lot of points even with Stalberg on the wing. Just like Kane and Hossa put up a lot of points playing with Carcillo. I'm sure Sharp will play with either Toews or Kane that's fine with me, just thinking of something different because the core haven't produced a lot in the last 2 playoff years |

Which brings us to the crux of the frustration I have with the front office. This will now be the third season where the talent up front is easily nullified by a lack of muscle forwards acquired to complement them.

If the Hawks can get Doan, you will probably see Stalberg in another sweater. That's who gets moved should Doan come to Chicago. - EKolb13
