Hindsight for the draft when Olli Maatta, Brady Skjei, & Jordan Schmaltz were all available at #20

Flyers cannot develop Dman, I like the Laughton pick, those guys wouldnt help us this year anyway.

Can the Flyers obtain JayBo for Picks and prospects or will it take more. What would be a fair deal for the Flyers and the Flames?
- jstross

I would think the Flames want Cousins/Laughton and a 1st for Jay-Bo. Not something I would be willing to do.

I would do Cousins and a 1st at this point.

Really? That cap hit is something that scares me (6.8M for two years). I dont think Jay-Bo is worth a 1st and one of our top prospects. I dont seem him making that much of a difference for this team.

I know, its horrible, and hes soft.....but we are desperate at this point. He can move the puck, we have enough hammers along the blue line, he doesnt need to bring a hitting game to us. He eats up minutes, and thats exactly what we need. Its not like were going to win this trade.

The Flyers can't develop dmen because they don't pick the right ones when their available.

Sorry, with Giroux, Couterier, Schenn, Talbot, and Cousins already on board, picking Laughton made no sense to me. Not insanely upset given I think he's going to be a player, but not picking Olli Maata only to have him end up on the Pens is maddening.

And I realize most people think Cousins is a winger at the NHL level, or that Laughton can eventually play wing. Forward position doesn't really matter. Maata and Laughton's potentials are similar if your comparing them cross position (2nd/3rd line center vs. Top-4 defensemen/Above average third pair).

We have the room with LTIR for this year and Kimmos money next year. The casio hot isn't that big of a concern to me.

I don't disagree with the things you've posted b/c the team does need someone to do exactly that. I'm just not sure I'm willing to give up a 1st and Cousins for Jay-Bo and that cap hit for two seasons. I dont think he makes that much of a difference at that cost.

Never draft for need. Always take the best player available IMO.

That's a little steep considering the salary. I'd be willing to go Cousins and a 3rd though. Need that 1st rd pick this year with the talent available.

However it is, if the Flyers can spot forward talent better than Dmen talent. Let them pick the forwards in the draft and let them grow. I wish they could pick and develop Dmen too. But they have proven that they just can't for whatever reason, so I'm glad they stick to what their good at

As I said, their long term potential is essentially the same. You couldn't go wrong with picking either.

Because it was the Flyers though, I thought Maata was the better choice. They thought otherwise.

In homer we trust, though. Always.

He's not. Definitely not. I'd be fine if the Flyers passed and went with CC. I believe they need a body though.

Its very steep and a price I wouldn't pay for Jay-Bo. Some feel the Flyers need help big time on defense but I would rather see what else is out there first.

A lot is going to depend on what the GM thinks of the young kids (Bourdon, Gus, and Manning).

At this point a first and prospect (not Laughton) is not that bad. Take away the cap hit and the bad team around him, he$ a solid top line D guy. We need that, uf not this year then definitely next year might as well address it now.

That probably more realistic IMO but I really want nothing to do with Jay-Bo and that cap hit. I dont see how he improves the team that much. I would rather take my chances with the young kids first then decide what needs to be done before the deadline.

Problem is we cant take away that cap hit and hes not worth a 1st rounder IMO.

I dont move Laughton for Jbo. Not even close.

We dont have the pieces to acquire Jbo right now without subtracting from another area, period.

Jbo is more valuable to the Flames then he is anywhere else. No team is paying a premium price for him.

Don' t get it. Have nothing against Cousins but jeez, the guy hasn't played a minute of pro and is not the biggest. Flyers are deep at center. Yet he's too valuble an asset to trade in a crisis for defensive help? He' the next who?

I would move Cousins to get a defenseman just not Jay-Bo and that ridiculous cap hit.

I do think Homer will get a UFA very shortly. But I am glad the Sixers made a good trade and im looking forward to the Eagles playin some regular not pre-season fooseball. hopefully the nhl wont be locked out, with Bettman I think it will
