I would move Cousins to get a defenseman just not Jay-Bo and that ridiculous cap hit. - stveshdy
If Visnovsky gets returned to the Ducks, maybe the Flyers could work out a trade?? |

Richardson is not a bad guy as well. I think the Sixers will be a force this year. Collins actually has the pieces he needs and adding Bynum only makes them better |

Understand. Say what you want about the hit. Bill calls it "insane" and he's normally not prone to hyperbole. There was lots of complaining about what Carl would cost. Nobody had a crystal ball but Matty would be lookin good now. Bo would be an expensive risk. But he's still young, healthy, plays minutes and possibly has yet to play his best hockey. Any defensemen won't help. The Flyers need a guy that can take minutes away from Coby and Timmo not another 5 or 6. |

eff JBO, why not wait it out and try to trade for Visnovsky? If the trade gets nullified id do a trade with the Ducks for what the Isles gave them. |

Not bad advice normally. I've been waiting for a second Cup, literally, since 1975. I was a patient person in the 80's and 90's. Now I'm feeling like a Cubs fan. |

no great loss here, but those hanging on to a dream of retaining all of our best young forwards are smoking something. we need a top 3 dman and there is simply no one available thru the FA mkt. by Dec, if not even sooner, a trade will be made cause this D crew is wanting...whether its because of age, injury, inexperience or lack of talent. - isaiah520
Andre Meszaros was obtained for a 2nd round draft pick. |

he was better with the Panthers but I would give no more than a 2nd rounder and maybe a prospect from the Phantoms not named Cousins or Laughton..a lower tier prospect at most |

Be careful bill, you'll be crucified in here if you think this is an average defense. Or have any type of negative outlook to the season - Just5
Bill didn't state that it was an average defense. He talked about injury concerns. Nothing wrong with having concerns. Concerns are warranted. Outright panic and nothing but negativity, really isn't warranted.

I'll tell you what- Boumeester is an awful defensman.
If we trade anything more than a 2nd rounder and a middle of the road prospect to Calgary I'll be irate.
Hell, I'm pretty sure I'll be irate if he dons a Flyers uniform this season.

The Flyers can't develop dmen because they don't pick the right ones when their available.
Sorry, with Giroux, Couterier, Schenn, Talbot, and Cousins already on board, picking Laughton made no sense to me. Not insanely upset given I think he's going to be a player, but not picking Olli Maata only to have him end up on the Pens is maddening.
And I realize most people think Cousins is a winger at the NHL level, or that Laughton can eventually play wing. Forward position doesn't really matter. Maata and Laughton's potentials are similar if your comparing them cross position (2nd/3rd line center vs. Top-4 defensemen/Above average third pair). - mochoson
Picking Laughton makes sense when you take into consideration the Flyers drafting philosophy of taking the best player available, regardless of position. You may disagree with that philosophy. But it does make sense.

As I said, their long term potential is essentially the same. You couldn't go wrong with picking either.
Because it was the Flyers though, I thought Maata was the better choice. They thought otherwise.
In homer we trust, though. Always. - mochoson
It's really the Flyers opinion of each players potential that counts. And they obviously felt Laughton is the better player.

Why wait. offer the islanders a deal for Visnovsky. it would have to be more than a 2nd rounder though since the Islanders pick will be earlier than the Flyers. I'm sure Visnovsky would drop the appeal to play in Philly. |
