that's what you're missing, the Flyers need a puck mover they have plenty stay at home types. It's all about the right mix and frankly the Flyers imo don't quite have a proven mix. - JoeRussomanno

he doesn't even get 20 points on an offensive team. How much of a puck mover is he? Is he even available? Also if he's bringing what JBo brings the Hawks wouldn't have went for Oduya at the deadline. - JoeRussomanno
Hes terrible just like Jay-Bo but cost less money. My stance is to stand pat. |

saying either guy is terrible is getting off base here, neither guy is terrible, one is likely not to fit, the other is overpaid. THe Flyers however need what the overpaid guy brings. They might have it they might not, and if they don't this is gonna be a long season. Not sure if I wanna watch them fight over last place this year. It think if they go into the season as is, it's a 60/40 split they make the playoffs but who knows? IF they add another quality proven puck mover I'd go with 80/20 they make the playoffs. Making the playoffs in the NHL isn't something to be taken granted.
edit: my point about Hjalmarsson's point totals aren't that he's terrible just that he doesn't seem to be the type of player the Flyers need on their blueline. |

Not going to agrue or disagree. My stance is that the Flyers go into camp and see what the other players have first before making a move. |

that's all well and good the timing of such a trade at this point is irrelevant. The only thing is if you don't make the move before or during the season, you're risking a long season. IF we're gonna worry about what a potential player coming here might be ridiculed for then we have to consider what current player here in our goalie is gonna get when the team can't get the puck out of the zone. |

I'm right there with you, because if homer sends to calgary what he sent to anaheim for Pronger then I might be in a market for a new lap top after i send it on a one way trip to the moon. - JoeRussomanno
How much you want to bet Calgary's first offer included Schenn and/or Couturier? |

That said, if they can get a proven puck mover cheaply, giddyap |

I agree, if that was the case. But I think we are all remembering that horrible post lockout season where Eric Desjarden retired and all of our D were Defensive sign posts... or Joni Pitkanen, who wasn't much better. We still have Kimmo & Coburn who can move the puck and Schenn & Grossman are far from Rathje and Hatch. I don't think we are going to be in that same place.
That being said, I do agree with you that if we wait for the season to start rather than address this now, we will Probably end up paying more for a Defensemen than we would addressing it now. We either think our Young guys are ready, or we don't. We have a ton of Cap space, But I think we could use another body. |

Yeah I said this before Mezzy went down in a heap but I still think it might be in the best interest of the Flyers to stay the course - see what of the youngsters bubble up to the top and then reevaluate come Thanksgiving. It should be fairly clear by then whether or not Philadelphia will need to address their blue line needs by then (assuming there's an actual season). |

@JoeR
JBo for a first plus Read or Simmonds
Do you want J Bo for that?
Cause I think that's what it takes.
Calgary needs J Bo, and they aren't going to take a prospect + 2nd rounder.
Also I think Detroit will offer them a better package then the Flyers if they decide they want him. |

Well then S a D CGY.
No roster players IMHO should be offered unless it is one of the three D men mentioned in the blog.
2nd, Cousins, Gus (or Manning or MAB)
I hate to trade that much but I would because IMHO Mezy down is a serious issue.
No more then that and I would be cursing the day the Flyers have to play against Cousins in CGY. I think it is a bit of an overpayment but I also think it should get it done for both sides.
If they would be willing to take Shelley or Lilja off our hands too to help with Cap relief? Sweet.

You must have not watched Hjalmarsson much -- he's a very adept puck-mover and his game is a bit of a hybrid between Carle and Coburn.
He's got a very efficient and dependable first-pass out of the zone, has the speed to skate the puck up the ice and out of trouble, and is very handy in the transition game. He's a very heady player and has good awareness in all three zones.
Like Coburn, the limited point production can be attributed to a lack of PP time, not being a natural playmaker with the puck and sticking to a more conservative game. Like Carle, he's more of a positional/stick guy defensively, will break up a lot of plays and block a lot of shots, but taking the body regularly isn't part of his M.O. and he catches flak for that in Chicago.
As a second-pairing option, he would bring much more value than Bouwmeester. I'm not convinced that the 'Hawks are really looking to move him, though. |

Exactly. Jay-bo is far from cheap and I don't see that much of an upgrade from what they have. Not worth overpaying for IMO. The Flyers will be able to move the puck and when did Jay Bo become Bourque as far as moving the puck? Is he that great at it? Why would the Flames be interested in moving him? |

If CBA negotiations look promising, he might be tempted to make a move. If the start of the season looks to be delayed, I think he'll stand pat. |
