It would be great if Gustafsson could carry over his playoff work from the Pens' series.

I wonder if Laviolette will make tweaks to compensate for the losses this summer

Great blog. Gives me more hope with the stand pat, do not panic approach to the rest of the summer.

Hmmm praising a defenseman from the Penguins Flyers series? Yep must be a Flyer blog.

It would be fantastic... and would bode extremely well for the future of that blue line...

Im gonna go on a super-optimistic thought...

Imagine if both MaB and Gusty take another step forward and show they are more than capable NHL players. They both bring a different dynamic.. one a swift speedy puck mover, the other more of a physical, stocky guy with a nice hard shot.

The thing that would be exciting is that our defense going into the following season would be a younger avg age than our offense! Schenn (22), MaB (22), Gusty (23), Meszy (turning 27), Coby (27/28)

I have no evidence to support this just a gut feeling that they will be fine. I hope they don't make any trades that they will regret.

That's the main concern, avoiding the panic move/overpayment. See how it goes with what they've got.

But that's not Holmger's style. He's proactive and not afraid to make a move now.

With the loss of Meszaros and Carle, I think mobility could be a little bit of an issue on the back end. Schenn is not a great skater. I'd really like to see the Flyers adjust their forecheck at times during the Season.

That's what history tells us. I have to believe that they're kicking the tires looking to make a move.

What do you think the long-term max upside potential is of each. 3-4, 5-6? Realizing that they are fighting over 5-6 right now...and would have been just 6 prior to Mez going down. But if we have 3 similar level guys fighting over 1 or 2 spots it would seem we might be able to use one as part of a deal to bring in a veteran.

If that's what happens, so be it. It's not like I have any control over team moves.

MAB!!! He is legit. Gust and manning I'm not high on. Wasn't it in 24/7 where a player or coach was commenting on how much of a physical force bourdon is? He has the tools

I actually like all three players just dont think any are going to be more than 3rd pairing type players. I hope they prove me wrong.

I think it was Prust in the NYR locker room saying (about MAB) he was a strong *#&#*# after fighting him.

Amazing how a well written piece on prospects makes me feel better about the defense. Would love to see a vet puck mover but I am also fine with seeing how this plays out. Not expecting a cup this year but, hopefully this season sets us up for some runs in the near future.

I've said that too... guess it depends on what he wants for money and term. 1-2 years is fine by me but his injuries worry me. Homer may wait til camp if there is one to see what transpires. If another one of the d men go down, he needs to get someone/
