Did either side hold up the Weber offer sheet and blame the Flyers for this mess?

Did Fehr hold up the Parise and Suter contracts after telling Bettman to go milk a cow?

How is revenue sharing even allowed when teams like Minnesota can sign contracts like this?

NHL owners are disgusting.

I hate the thought of revenue sharing. Does it surprise anyone that a hockey team in the middle of the desert struggles financially? Can Florida really support 2 hockey teams? Look at baseball, you have teams that only make money because of the luxery tax that teams like the Yankees, Dodgers, and Red Sox pay. That is no way to run an organization, and it takes away motivation from the owners of those teams to improve their product or their facilitys. The Salary Cap alone should be sufficient to keep the playing field level. Dont Raise the ceiling of the cap so often, and force teams to make real decisions.
I dont think a salary rollback is nescessary or fair either. All the owners who signed players to rediculous long term deals are idiots and it hasnt helped them win anything. Look at players like DePietro, Kovolchuck, Luongo, none of them have their name engraved on the cup. Owners need to police themselves better.
Keep the cap lower, and put year limits on contracts.

Considering that Minnesota is a top-15 revenue team and so they don't qualify for revenue sharing, ... but to your question, revenue sharing is allowed because the CBA says so - and it doesn't discriminate based on what kind of contract some team lobbed. It does discriminate based on the size of the market a team is in [so the Islanders can't get revenue sharing no matter how terrible things get as long as they're in New York] and whether you're in the top-15 of revenues [you don't get any] or you're in the bottom-15 of revenues [you're eligible] and what your growth rate in revenues was compared to the league average, ... but "you're getting revenue sharing" doesn't mean anything like "you can only sign guys to contract shorter than 4 years / less than $5 million per."
