I wish I was alive to watch flyers hockey of the 70s and mid to late 80s

Yep...That was in 2002...I somehow skimmed past that one. One year and 2 months after the Slaney/Stevens deal, they traded Manderville for Tibbetts.

Ahhhh, you found a list. Flyershistory.com? I didn't feel like looking.

If you are a fan of music, it was better to have not lived through the 80's.
- Daman

Yes, today's music is so much better. Bieber, Perry, Gaga & Carly Rae Jepson are so much more enjoyable and talented than U2, Van Halen, Metallica and other 1980's bands.

The last non-rights trade(i.e. player for player or picks) between the Flyers & Pens was Kevin Stevens to Pittsburgh for John Slaney, in January of 2001.

The mid-1980's, Keenan Era teams were so much fun to watch. Plus, it was the most exciting era in NHL history. The game was physical, had a lot of offense and dazzling talent and coaches didn't import defensive systems to crush that talent.

I was wrong...

In March of 2002, the Flyers traded no goals(Kent Manderville) for no Soul(Billy Tibbetts)

This debate is like other debates of "best of all time". You have old timers that swear the players in their era were the best.

Jordan or Wilt? You'll hear guys swear that Wilt changed the game, changed the rules, and parted the seas.

Truth of the matter is the modern athlete is better than those of 50 years ago. I would imagine most records of speed, endurance, jumping, etc. have been broken. There is good reason for this.

Nutrition
Competitiveness
Training
Genetics
Evolution
Bigger Population (i.e. better odds of better athletes)

You name it. The modern athlete (on average) and modern equipment are far superior to anything from 50 years ago.

So how do you discount all these factors? To me, it is really a matter of opinion, speculation, and mostly guess work.

It's not like it mattered then anyway, Stevens' best days were behind him. That whole crack/hooker incident was the final nail in his coffin. But pre '95 Stevens was an absolute beast.

Absolutely. By the time Stevens ended up here, he was a shadow of a shell of his former self...but in his prime, he was a premier power forward

What if guys like Chamberlain, Howe & DiMaggio trained the way modern athletes do? Let's face it, back in the 1970's, Guy Lafleur smoked heavily and most guys used training camp to get into shape.

Nutrition was drinking "Lite" Beer in season & eating steaks as a pre-game meal.

Conversely, if guys like Giroux could play against the defensive systems & goalies from the 1970's & 1980's, how much more would he produce?

First, I never compared the 1980's to modern music. You inferred that, but I never stated it.

Second, I have no idea who Carly Rae Jepson is.

Third, you shouldn't be listening to Perry, you should be enjoying her other assets (other than her voice).

Fourth, the complete psychological damage caused by "Wake me up before you go go" and "Never gonna give you up" completely offset the talents of the bands you provided.

I agree with you, which is why I think any comparison is only guessing/speculation. Although you'll probably disagree that we agree.

So, we shouldn't listen to Katy Perry, however WHAM! and Rick Astley are burned in your memory banks?

I do agree, but every era has it's WHAM!. The Sixties had the 1910 Fruitgum Company, the 70's had the Bay City Rollers, the 1990's had the Spice Girls & now we get Carly Rae & "Call Me Maybe"

Any comparison of one sports era to another is nothing more than speculation. There's no way to pit Gretzky in his prime against Crosby or Malkin or Giroux in theirs.

Idk what pissed me off more the Tampa/ flyers stallfest of a game last yr or the fact that I 100% agreed with Millburry...

Yeah, it does suck when you find yourself agreeing with Milbury.

Last time that happened, it took 14 lbs of homemade Xanax to get me out of my funk.

Oh crap, I lied. That Call Me Maybe is my daughter's favorite song (just didn't know who sang it).

Of course, I was picking the worst of the worst from the 80's. It sounds like we have the same muscial tastes, so no need to debate. Thought Wham and Rick Astley would get a good laugh.

I had to buy the cd for my daughter for her birthday. That mess is burned into my skull. I force my kids to listen to good music in the car-Stones, Beatles, CCR, VH, Pearl Jam-to try and cure their poopty music taste. But my wife undoes it with Disney radio and country music.

That is certainly true. However all time greats such as Gretzky, Lemieux, Howe, Clarke, would have been top players in any era.

It was like I imagined Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue felt after waking up with a needle in his arm the day after dying from a heroin OD and being revived. It shook me to my very soul.
