I don't have much hope. Were in for a long lockout. And I think the threat of a lost Season is very real. The secondary issues are the easy part. - MJL
I cant stand the idea of no hockey this year. Guess ill have to make due watching my kid play. |

You may be right, but I am hoping that the ramifications of a lost season are becoming reality. I am a loyal fan and came back after the last lockout as I understood the reasoning. This time, it is less understandable and 2 full lost seasons in 7 years may cause me to rethink where I spend my money. |

I can certainly fill the gap with playing hockey myself as well as with Football. Also, the money I normally spend on Centre Ice can go somewhere else too. |

If Mike Richards (currently 2nd in the vote to virtual shoo-in Tocchet) beats out Dave Poulin, Rick MacLeish et al for the final roster spot, I'll honor the readers' final vote when I submit the roster to Ek for the fantasy league.
But before that, someone is going to have to restrain me from bashing my head into a brick wall a few times before I write my commentary tomorrow morning . Nothing against Richards, but there is no way in hell that he should get in over either Poulin over MacLeish. - bmeltzer

You Sir, are correct!
Poulin, Macleish, Primeau ALL deserve the spot over Captain Miserable |

Richards had a more complete game then Poulin from what i remember. Atleast more offensive upside. - Stinkfitz
As someone more than old enough to have seen Poulin play (and for that matter, Macleish too!), you are wrong.
Richards at his best may have a BIT more offensive upside, but Poulin was more consistent and much better defensively. Also Poulin, along with Clarke, was of the 2 best leaders in team history. |

I didnt remember Poulin winning the Selke but Richards has been in the running for that also at one time. As far as leadership goes I care more about on ice then off.
Would you say Richards was a more offensive skilled player and Poulin better in his own end? - Stinkfitz

No - BiggE
Well which is it. The quote above u state he has a bit more offensive skill then you say NO to the next quote asking if he had more offensive skill and pouliin was better in his own end.
And although Primeau was a good captain and i liked him as a player he doesnt rank with Richards as an all around player. Offensively he was a dissapointment. |

I think the better comparison for Richards might be a guy like Scott Mellanby, not Poulin. If someone really remembered Poulin I don't think a comparison can be made.

if nothing is done by the end of November, a full season lost is a real possibility.
Personally, I think the season is lost. Betteman does not want to compromise and with him winning the last time there was a lockout, I don't see him backing down.
As someone posted a while back, how can someone say they have been a good commissioner for a league that has had 3 work stoppages in their time line...shameful.
add into the fact that hockey gained some viewership last year and now this...
a bunch of idiots and I include ALL owners...even Snider.

I think I'll echo Bill Meltzer's words. Poulin and Richards were about equal offensively. With Poulin being the better defensive player. Although Richards is a very good penalty killer. But not nearly as strong as Poulin in 5 on 5 defensive play. I agree with Primeau. He lost his offensive game for some reason. At least he found it in that TB series. |

Bettman may have gotten what he wanted in the last lockout, but it hasn't worked out so good for the League. If it had, we wouldn't be in a lockout now. As far as Bettman is concerned, depends on how you judge it. The League has grown from a revenue of 2.1B to 3.3B under the last CBA. |

Consideration certainly. But in the end, he's one of the final cuts. Not just in terms of amount of time spent with the Flyers. But there were also better players. |

Once again....it shows the age of the voters.....as to why Giroux and Coburn got in over more well deserving players. I am not dismissing their talent, just their place in Flyers History at this point in their careers.
It is almost shameful that people have Richards over some of the others...but hey who am I to talk I voted for Murray Craven - Pyzik
AY YO DAWG.
You got me right here at the ripe ol' age of 19.
Only current Flyer I voted for was G in the whole thing.
Today I went with Poulin and Tocc. |

I went Tocc and Briere...
Tocc for obvious reasons, and Danny for the way he leads this team in the Playoffs. He was instrumental in the cup run as well as the ECF following the season of non-mentioning. |

If he stayed with the Flyers through his career, or at least for several more seasons, I'm sure he would've found his way onto this roster at some point.
Of course, I'm sure he's happy with the way things have gone |

right!! he got what he wanted and it didn't work out and here the league is at it again. yes, revenue has grown but with that there has been three work stoppages. as you pointed out it depends on how you judge. let's not forget the teams that he has kept afloat. |

Agree on both counts. However, if I went solely by sentiment, I'd have cast votes for Mikael Renberg and Brad Marsh.
BTW, it was Renberg who broke Poulin's team record for rookie scoring. - bmeltzer
I had Renberg as one of my seven. I would never vote for that puke Recchi. It would be a travesty if Poulin isnt on this team.
Bill, i know you will "honor" the voters selection, but this is the clearest case of the need for an "executive decsion" there can be |

I immediately saw Tocchet and Poulin at the top of the list, and thought there couldn't be two more deserving players, until I scrolled down and saw Primeau and Kapanen right next to each other. That 2004 team is what made me a Flyers' fan for life, so there was no possible way I could decide on just two. I went with only 1 vote: Sami Kapanen.

Voted for him too, loved that guy. I was going to do the same and just vote him then I saw, JR. The guy gave me too many great memories not to vote for. |
