Tocchet was a gimme for one slot. I ended going up with Mike Richards as my other choice over Briere, Linseman & Hartnell. That choice was more difficult than I thought it would be. - Jsaquella
Tocchet and then I went with Poulin, one of top 3 captains in Flyers history...IMO |

Looking back Poulin was the right man for the job...no doubt he assisted the younger teammates during the time of Pelle's death. |

If Mike Richards (currently 2nd in the vote to virtual shoo-in Tocchet) beats out Dave Poulin, Rick MacLeish et al for the final roster spot, I'll honor the readers' final vote when I submit the roster to Ek for the fantasy league.
But before that, someone is going to have to restrain me from bashing my head into a brick wall a few times before I write my commentary tomorrow morning . Nothing against Richards, but there is no way in hell that he should get in over either Poulin over MacLeish.

Once again....it shows the age of the voters.....as to why Giroux and Coburn got in over more well deserving players. I am not dismissing their talent, just their place in Flyers History at this point in their careers.
It is almost shameful that people have Richards over some of the others...but hey who am I to talk I voted for Murray Craven |

Richards had a more complete game then Poulin from what i remember. Atleast more offensive upside. |

Poulin was an extremely complete player, including being a two-time 30+ goal scorer who averaged better than a point-per-game (albeit in a higher scoring era) his first two seasons. Hockey sense off the charts. Richards is a good two-way player, but Poulin was a Selke caliber shutdown center on top of it. And he was in another galaxy than Richards in terms of being an off-ice leader. |

From what I remember is that Poulin won the Selke award in 1987
King Clancy in 1993
Most point by a Flyers rookie 76
Better leadership qualities
I am comparing Poulin the Flyer versus Richards the Flyer...not what either of them did went they got traded.
I also believe it shows the age of the voters. There is nothing wrong with that because most votes are based on personal favorites to some degree. |

Agree on both counts. However, if I went solely by sentiment, I'd have cast votes for Mikael Renberg and Brad Marsh.
BTW, it was Renberg who broke Poulin's team record for rookie scoring.

I went with Tocchet and Rick Macleish. It killed me to leave Dave Poulin out. Also wanted badly to pick Mike Richards. |

I didnt remember Poulin winning the Selke but Richards has been in the running for that also at one time. As far as leadership goes I care more about on ice then off.
Would you say Richards was a more offensive skilled player and Poulin better in his own end? |

IMO, at the end of the game, I would put Poulin out there more times then I would put Richards.... |

If I had to choose one over the other I agree. But I would be extremely confident if Richards was the guy in that spot. I wish Richards had remained a Flyer for his entire career. |
