That's not the point at all. I'm pretty sure if you asked, 9 out of 10 people would prefer to work for Apple, or Google over any other company out there.
The point of this conversation is that players (employees) have OPTIONS of where they wish to be employed. At the end of the day, no one is holding a gun to their head and forcing them to play in the NHL. It's a CHOICE. - Pen15
The point is that once in, they have no power and no right for years. |

No comparison in terms of performance...but they're still in the same industry...and employees that specialize in soft drinks still have the OPTION to work for either. |

Just like an employee at a bank. 3 years for someone in my level....5-7 years for someone at a higher level.
And...those terms can be negotiated in most cases. Just like a UFA would negotiate their term. |

You're assuming both will hire you. Which is not a lock.

Yes it can.
If another company buys my refinery, Im sold with it.
I cant go work for Imperial Oil if that happens, competition clause in the sale.
Too bad so sad.

Thanks for proving my point. Not as comparable as the NHL and KHL.
NHL >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> KHL - systemtool
No one is arguing that you TOOL.
The point is that irrespective of their PERFORMANCE (NHL>KHL), they both operate in the same INDUSTRY....giving potential employees the OPTION to apply for either. |

So banks draft their employees at 18 years old?
What is the minor league team for your bank? The Oshawa Payday Loaners? |

Now you're nitpicking. A sign that you just got raped in this argument.
Would me saying 'the option to APPLY' for either straighten out your concern? |

You're right in principle. But in Steele's example, the reality is that the competition won't hire you in the first place if you don't break that clause. |

They cant prevent you from making a living... and theres many different ways companies would structure these.
Some likely being more restrictive than others depending on the position, and contract signed.
If you dont like the competition clause, you dont have to sign the contract afterall.

The comparisons to "the real world" aren't helpful, because the NHL operates in a weird grey area where sometimes they are 30 seperate companies, but sometimes they are 30 franchises of the same company. - Atomic Wedgie
You would think this would have helped clarify things.
But, surprisingly, it didn't.
Therefore...

Are you a lawyer or something?
Im not, but Ive had a couple of these clauses for jobs Ive had... they havent hindered me, but I know they can get much more restrictive for bigger positions then I've had.
