he could get crazy money on the open market. he is exactly what a lot of teams need positionally. that is what would scare me as a panthers fan. |

Yeah...open market he will command some good money...probably more than the Panthers are willing to pay...if we ever get back to playing.

Calgary could be facing a similar pain...times 100000. We may have seen Iginla the last time as a Flame if we don't get the season going And Kipper is now into his last year.
I'm a big fan of the franchise player that sticks with a team (like Sakic and Yzerman). Too bad the league isn't suitable for that any more. Weiss I can see playing a role with Hubdreaus development, so can't see why they'd move him. Prospects need their mentors and roles models (crosby had roberts and lemeiux....ovechin had no one).
I'm hoping the flames can pull in one of the big name Centers out there in UFA if this happens (even Roy would fit) |

I have a feeling he'll be signed by the Canucks. - Boinker
Sure, we could definitely use another ex-panther on our team. Can never have too many of those!

I think it's important to keep players who want to play in Florida, in Florida - especially those who make a nightly impact like Weiss. Create a culture of hockey down here, as we're starting to do in Tampa, and good things will come. |

Weiss is staying. I honestly don't see him pulling a Bo (because he isn't an @-hole) and I don't see him commanding too much money that Tallon has no choice but to trade/let him walk. I know teams will offer him big money, but he has stated that his loyalty is to the Panthers and he wants to retire here. I believe him. Out of every player we've had over the years, Weiss has seemed to be the more upfront and honest. I don't think he'll let greed get in the way of loyalty. |

I agree he will sign around what verteeg and flash are at. I don't think money will be a problem. |

Weiss goes no where. He will sign the extension and get the raise he deserves. He will dawn the "C", and keep fighting for us. But man.. am I missing hockey |

I can see Weiss asking for a minimum of what Grabovski got in Toronto
Similar situation, best center on the team, organizational need, fans seem to like him and can easily be over payed on the Market when clubs like Chicago, Calgary, Toronto, and so on have the same needs of a Top 6 centre who can produce points.
Panthers should be ready to drop 5 million per and I'd say the safest bet, go 5 years. Between that time you'll know for sure if Hubs takes the 1C spot or not, and keep one of your best players whose been thru it all there. Up down and sideways. |
