I think the owners are behind the owners. Bettman is the figure head, paid very very well to take the brunt of the criticism and do what his owners want. Its much easier with 30 owners. Fehr on the other hand is telling the 700 players what to do.

The answer to both questions is maybe. A an outsider I don't know how much of this is personality and ego and how much is just these guys representing what their constituents really want.

I do know however what we want as fans is way down the list

Yes I agree he wants a deal and he wants a season. They are throwing away away $3.3 B in revenue.

But he started the first offer at 43% and forced a lockout. Yes that was just an initial offer but it set a tone of mistrust that has never been solved.

As for Fehr he doesn't give a rat's ass about us fans, he just wants the best deal for the players.

I believe Fehr set the tone when he killed the NHL's re-alignment plans and then played the coy hard-to-get Lolita slowly sashaying to the negotiating table. Me thinks that insulting first offer was basically a "oh yeah, (frank) you too".

God, I love Whammy Bar Man. The dude is awesome. Doesn't actually play any tunes; just leans heavily on the whammy bar for about an hour as people file past him to get to the ACC.

The attitude of “we could get more” is the biggest problem on both sides of this issue. The constantly shifting priorities (if true) put forth by the NHLPA is designed to drive frustration and is not bargaining in good faith. Did anyone else hear how important pensions were prior to Wednesday? Yeah, me neither. "We could get more" by losing more games and more time and more pay... flat out silly.
