It's absurd that the PA continually sends back counter-proposals based entirely off the league's proposal, but it's unacceptable. It's ludicrous.

The owners want the players to just accept the offer rather than negotiate it. This is why they hate Fehr so much. The owners wanted the opportunity to try and take advantage of the players and as soon as they consulted their legal team, headed by Fehr, the owners felt they lost their opportunity to screw the players.

Your Fehr hate is hilarious at this point. The NHLPA is the only side that has made any concessions. No matter how this ends, the NHLPA will be losing something and the NHL will be gaining everything. The NHLPA just refuses to lose more than they have to.

But sure, I guess the players should have just agreed to 47% of HRR. And then 40% when there's another lockout.

Franchise value is worth way more than annual earnings.

A team that loses 10 million a year but is worth 100 million dollars more than it was when it started is a more valuable team.

This isn't about picking sides. The owners created a system that they said would work for all 30 teams and then proceeded to destroy the system they created by their own irresponsibility.

Honestly, I hate Bettman, but let's be realistic. The owners are losing money. At the same time, the players are making guaranteed money. In any business, you cannot survive if your expenses are more than your revenue. When more than 50% of teams lose money, it's bad business.

The owners are losing money because they are clueless on how to spend their money. Every year, the owners spend money that they don't have and then cry that the players make too much. Guess who handed out the contracts? The owners. Bad business is spending money unwisely.

They've settled on the revenue share, but the sticking points are this.
1. CBA term. League wants 10 with opt out at 8, players want 8 with opt out at 6. problems with this. The $300M from the league to the players was going to be spaced over the 10 years instead. Reducing that term financially burdens teams. Pure greed, the players will get the money, they just want it now.

Greed? Why are the players greedy for wanting the money that the owners already promised they would give them? If anything, the owners are the greedy ones. They sign contracts for 10 years and then flip flop and say the contracts need to be maxed out at 5 years and they are going to roll back the salaries. That's insane. The deals are signed. The owners already agreed to them. Now, pay them.

2. Term of contract. Owners want 5 with an option for 7 if with same team. Players want no restrictions. Why? Players are signing terms and deals that make them set for life. Crosby could never play an NHL game again and have $100M. Players want a lifetime guarantee of money. What other profession can you negotiate a guaranteed $100M for 10 - 15 years when you're only 27 years old? Answer is, none. Sorry players. No one in life gets guaranteed retirements. 5 years is more than enough.

Owners want to restrict the players beyond what is necessary. They don't have to force 5 year contracts on everybody. Having an annual salary variance is enough. This is about the owners trying to roll back the players and squeezing them for the future. The owners are constantly gaining and the players are constantly losing.
