you could say the same about the NHL's proposal and it would pass a vote amongst the PA... - jakrabbit
Right, but its only players faults. Point prove . Both sides are (frank)ed but it seems only one side sees that. |

They were close. They changed one small item and the league freaked. Overreaction. 5year limit doesn't change the ecconomics. No need to die on that hill. Absurd. - burn
thats a huge sticking point for the league!!
that is NOT a small change!!! |

no, his job is to get a deal negotiated so the people he represents can go back to work
he is failing at this. |

His job was to complete this deal with the owners, not be a deal breaker.. - bixll
this.
he is paid to get the best deal for the players and get them back to work.. no deal is the furthest thing from that. |

Did you see where bob Mackenzie said he think players proposal would pass a vote amongst owners? - burn
So that would make Burkle, Chipman and Tanenbaum hard liners?

There is no reason for it to be. Plain stupid. They won't even negotiate it. Absurd.
The league is hold all this hostage over something that doesn't matter in the economics of it all. Unacceptable. |

no its not. the league doesnt want players signed long term anymore
all that does is make the league old. because old guys are on these nonsense contracts which keeps young, exciting players from getting into the league
long term deals are fine when the players are in their twenties.. but 10 years from now it will be an anchor for the league

Well they were enraged by the offer, so it seems like a stretch that it would pass a vote.

Both sides are screwed up, and I'm not going to parade around like I have a strong grasp of how collective bargaining works, because I dont...but in my opinion, the players work for the owners, not the other way around. As Tannenbaum said, they are losing money they will never recover, for them to hold out for more is just absurd imo
Players may be the product of the game, but the owners are the ones providing the stage for these guys to play on. Without that stage, they are playing in Europe or beer leagues with a fraction of the benefits they currently receive. There will always be young talented players waiting on the sidelines for jobs to open up, the current NHL players (especially those nearing retirement) lose this negotiation no matter how you slice it.
Take the offer, say thank you and get on the ice. |

I'm flabbergasted that people are blaming one side, the NHL is acting like a dictatorship, in union negotiations you don't give a yes or no and like children pull everything off the table then expect a union not to make a counter proposal, how insulting is sending a voice mail refusing it, that is plain arrogance. Can you believe anything Bettman says?
As for Fehr, he is squeezing and squeezing, not standing down, his best interest is not the game, the players behind him yesterday thought they were close, there was no lie. The problem is, the group behind him was players making a lot of coin and really didn't speak for the lesser lites in the league.
The whole situation is toxic, not wanting a union leader in the room is absolutely asinine, the players pay him to represent them and it is their right, for the NHL to say it is a deal breaker is childish.
What I saw yesterday was two gown men acting like children, the best interest of the game has been lost on them and now has become personal, it is egos that is the problem, the sooner all involved are removed the better we will get back the great game it once was.
Both sides have the fans blood on their hands. - LeafMan

Kind of hypocritical when two of the owners in the meetings signed players to over 6 year deal right before the lockout, this is why I said you can't believe everything they are telling you. |

Then don't sign them. Makes no sense to want to limit Crosby coming of elc to 5 years... Automatic UFA at that point.
2 owners in the talks yesterday signed guys to 6 year deals moments before the cba expired. Hypocrites? |
