Look at those poll numbers about Bettman, did you ever think you'd see that...someone in hockey against whom Bettman seems great...it's like how by the end of Return of the Jedi you hate the Emperor but see Darth Vader suddenly as an okay guy. It blows my mind, Fehr made Bettman the good guy to hockey fans...simply incredible. After all the millions of times hockey fans have said Bettman doesn't care about hockey, now he cares about it MORE than someone...didn't see that coming
The player poll numbers on the three issues are amazing too...they pretty much say it all at this point. I agree completely with EK on this, great blog |

Curious if any players look at polls to see what the fans think. |

Obviously Fehr doesn't care about the game, he's a hired gun. Bettman cares, it just seems like he tries to make us hate him. Offer them the same deal again say they have a week to accept it, and say it can't be tweaked. Go with that instead of just completely pulling it off the table. |

10 Years CBA, 6 years contracts, 380M$ Makewhole. That's it that's all.
Easy to solve. They are waiting last minute. There will be an agreement this week. |

I am saying Fehr has negotiated a MUCH better offer then I thought anyone could. The fact that the the owners are getting their 50/50 and honoring the signed contracts without taking away arbitration is absolutely a WIN for the players...and the longer you can ride this CBA...the players win every year longer because 50/50 will go up and up and up after year 3.
- Eklund
It boggles my mind how anyone could think this. The owners were more than willing to make concessions on secondary issues like arbitration and years to free agency waaaay back in September.
The only thing Fehr has gained for the players is $300 million in Make Whole, which won't come close to matching the money lost by losing part (or all) of this season.
He has cost the players money. |

It's great to be optimistic all the time but you can't guarantee the players won't throw away the season. Their stance all along has been baffling to most. Throwing away more money this year than they would ever get back over the life of the new CBA.
Seems like 2004 all over again. Did you think the players would lose an entire season over the salary cap back then or was there 0.00 chance that they'd throw away the season over a salary cap?
One thing that Fehr isn't getting enough bad press for is his penchant for not showing up for scheduled meetings for hours and hours. I believe you said, on the day things fell apart, that he was 5 hours late for the meeting. I know this has been used as a negotiating tactic before but it is absolutely disgusting. I guarantee you that if the NHL was 5 hours late for a meeting the twitterverse would explode and we'd hear from mainstream media and players alike about how disrespectful that is. Because it's the players it barely registers. |

Agreed. When it's all said and done, Fehr will have lost the players more money than he gained back. That will only be magnified if there is long term damage to the game... |

Showing up late to meetings is your typical left wing union stall tactic. No need to make a huge deal out of it....everyone knows it's part of the process. The funny part is that it'll end up getting no where. |

Eklund: Polling 50 Players on NHL's 3 Demands. Take Important Survey and Be Heard - Eklund
Ek, now you're just sucking up to players trying to make them think they have made good decisions. Fehr has been a disaster for them. Just what has he "masterfully negotiated" for them?
Everyone knew and said this would end up at 50/50 before the lockout even started. The 300 million make whole only benefits the players currently under contract. But to get that he has given up over 500 million to the players as a whole. The contract issues were always negotiable. He has won them nothing, cost them millions, and cost them fans because the more they spouted off the more it pissed off fans. This lock out has been a TOTAL LOSS for FEHR AND THE PLAYERS!
Anyone trying to spin it otherwise is blind! |

Both Fehr and Bettman suck. I just think Bettman cares slightly more because he doesn't want to be fired and plans on being here longer. Fehr is probably done after this CBA is negotiated.
Spin can be thrown around by either side, but I still think both sides are stupid enough to kill this season. If we do have a season it will be to my great surprise. |
