Agreed. Ek's job is not easy. And if this comes through, many posters will owe him an appology (which will never happen). - FlyersFirst
Its mroe that Bob acknowledge that Ek "reported" it first and not just blindly got the rumor right. Helps his credability. |

If Fehr doesn't have some other agenda. If this is true, how do you guys feel about NBA sign and trades now entering the NHL? I never liked it but whatever at this point - mrhattrick27

Wtf do Kyper & McLean get paid for again? - Pen15 I would say maclean is going a better job at this then being an NHL GM. And he is terrible at this. Maclean isn't worth the charmin extra soft he wipes his a$s with.

I wonder how long it lasts? The entire length of the CBA do you get that one golden bullet? If so, do the Habs really want to use it on Gomez? Do you need that salary cap space RIGHT now? It would be helping for 1 year. With Redden it makes sense if you can't bury him again cause Rangers need that space now. Do flyers really use it on Bryz? Its too valuable to just use on a bad contract you have right now. Too short sighted |

There was no call for a vote after the player/owner meeting. That is pure fantasy that has somehow grown into a fact here on Hockeybuzz. The vote for DOI tells you all you need to know. If the players wanted to vote on any offer made during the meeting. The results of the DOI vote would have been opposite. That it was so overwhelming in favor of DOI, tells you that the players weren't happy with any offer made. - MJL
Do your homework. After the player/owners meetings when Fehr got back involved and said they could "get more", EVERY media sourse from Ek to the TSN panel, to the Sportsnet panel, to ESPN were reporting that their player sources were all calling for a players vote on the offer. There are even reports of guys like Iginla and St. Louis wanting in on the player meetings, and was refused by Fehr, because they were moderates. Fehr only wants lemmings and hard line players involved so that he can control them, and put his spin on it.
Second, the DOI is a completely different issue, the player vote was not needed to file a DOI, it was a sham vote that means nothing, and everyone knows its a negotiating tactic. An overwhelming vote on DOI does not mean hat the players overwhelmingly reject any offer, it means that they agree that Fehr should use the sham vote as a negotiating tactic, thats all.
Let`s see where the rubber meets the road on Jan. 2, does the NHLPA file with the courts or no? |

One time buyout to comply with the salary cap gong down next year. Gomez cap hit is 7.3M but his salary will be 4.5M next year, he is gone. |

The problem with using the amnesty on Bryz is that Michael Leighton becomes our starter until a new goalie is found. Unless there's an immediate replacement lined up, I don't buyout the cosmonaut. Other considerations are Pronger (if an injured player can be amnestied) or Briere (based solely on his salary).
As for the Habs, I think buying out Gomez is a no brainer. That's a big chunk of cap space to recover. I'd think Redden is another easy decision. |

The Isles will extend DiPietro. Max contract. - glove_was_stuck
dipietro is an interesting situation...in no immediate way does he effect the islanders. they struggle to get to the cap floor..they actually NEED dipietro on their books to reach the salary floor. its not so simple to just cut him...(personally, its a problem id LOVE to have but again from the isles perspective, theyd have to find someone else to pay.) |

We had an expression in college: rumor is truth and truth is exaggerated. Believe it when I see it. And yes, I'm aware that it's being universally reported. Right now it seems like a rumor circle jerk. |
