Wow, what an inferiority complex you have. I could care less if the leaf do or don't make the playoff now that the CBA has been worked out. I just know that in recent seasons the leafs have had strong starts, and this would serve them well in this sprint of a season.

I have NOT been discrediting a 48 game season, just pointing out that it is DIFFERENT from the (now) normal 82 game season, and because of these differences, the playoff seeds will be different, than had they started the season on time, with a full training camp and exhibition season.

The last time they had a 48 game season, there was no inter conference play, and that alone should help some teams, and hurt others, leading to playoff teams that would not have been there because of that alone.

Yeah, it's not looking good right now, they should consider signing a UFA D man, but they may not be the only team looking for help on D.

So then you agree that the results of a jump started 48 game sprint, with no inter conference play, with roughly 25% of the players who have been playing regularly in other leagues is EXACTLY the same as the results from a regular 82 game season with all players starting from the same place (conditioning wise).

I can trade you Komisarek for one of your forward prospects

Too big of a cap hit for next season, when they probably will not need him.

Rumoured possible signings are Kurtis Foster, Kurt Sauer & Randy Jones.

the sens do not have any cap worries at all. also Gonchar comes off the books for the sens next season, that would put Komisarek in his place at a 500k lower cap hit for next season.

the leafs and sens will probably not trade anyways. Even if there was a fit

We're talking about a guy who has never been the same player after Milan Lucic cleaned his clock

Is it that or more so he has not been the same since being paired with Markov?, you can see with Kuba, being a scapegoat 1 season and an asset the next when playing with Karlsson.

Paired with the right person can change a lot, I think Komisarek just has not been a good fit in Toronto, with anyone.

I agree with your take on Markov, but that fight did some damage.

Hummmm, reading both Helen Branswell & Cam Cole columns this morning, I was wondering were I heard some of these points before.

http://metronews.ca/sport...injuries-loom-for-nhlers/
Given that players actually had a four-month longer inter-season break — they missed last summer’s training camp, after all — it’s the obvious question to ask. And it’s a situation fans, players, coaches and owners will be watching in coming days as teams launch ultra short training camps to get ready for an abbreviated season.

Injuries are a pain at any point. But when you’re talking about a 48-game season, losing a number because of a pulled groin is something players don’t even want to think about.

“Obviously if you’re playing hard out there, it’s part of the game. It’s going to happen sometimes, but hopefully we can keep it to a minimum,” says Calgary Flames forward Curtis Glencross.

“You miss a few games to an injury … it could be a third of a season if it’s a minor injury. It’s going to be different, but hopefully, knock on wood, we don’t get too many injuries and we can keep rolling as a team.”

http://www.vancouversun.c...+their/7786597/story.html

But it’s worth considering the possibility that the Canucks — oldish as they are, with zero obvious prospects on the verge of making an impact, zero hot rookies, no one who played in the world junior, no one of major consequence (other than goalie Cory Schneider, briefly) who kept the engines running by playing in Europe, and only a couple of lukewarm youngsters toiling unproductively in the American Hockey League — may have missed the boat entirely.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Of the almost 200 NHL players who signed with European clubs during the lockout, Boston and Philadelphia had 11 each overseas, Ottawa and the New York Islanders had 10 apiece, and Montreal had eight.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Edmonton, which occupied the Northwest Division cellar last year (and the two years before that), had its three top forwards — Jordan Eberle, Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins — as well as its ballyhooed defensive signing, Justin Schultz, playing (and starring) with their Oklahoma City AHL affiliate, while No. 1 overall draft pick Nail Yakupov played in the Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League. Nugent-Hopkins and Yakupov both played in the World Junior. Ryan Smyth and goalie Devan Dubnyk were on Canada’s victorious Spengler Cup team.

The Canucks will face the Oilers four, perhaps five, times this year in a 48-game format that will feature conference-only play. It’s not too far off-the-wall to speculate that the Oilers could come roaring out of the gate while Vancouver struggles to get up to speed.

Your Original point was about the Cup winner, and they deserve an asterisk, not about how a 48 game season is different from 82.

I don't know about you, but I would not equate a team that wins the Stanley Cup after a 48 game season, with one that was won in the (now) traditional 82 game season. To me it wouldn't mean as much, and I suspect the players would not regard it (a Stanley Cup Win) in the same light either.

An asterisk would be there, regardless if it was visible or not.

What is the point you are trying to make now?

Same point. The Differences between a Jump Started 48 game season sprint, does NOT equate a regular (now) 82 game season marathon.

No exhibition games

No inter conference play

Teams with different levels of players in "mid season game shape" with some teams having an advantage, others disadvantage

The end result ( playoff seeds ) will be different than that of a (now) regular 82 game season..............and the Playoffs will unfold with the playoff teams that got there under these different circumstances.

It's not that hard to understand.

Are you arguing that the results of a "sprint season" will be exactly the same as a "marathon season"?

this seems to be your "backtracked" version.

I am saying that whoever wins the cup this season, I will feel they deserve it as much as a team that won a cup in an 82 game season.

this thread can be summed up by this
- 48 game season is less then 82 so yes it is an abbreviation season
- the winner of the stanley cup still is the winner of the stanley cup, No asterisk and it will mean no less to anyone on the team, or anyone besides good old dops

All I've be saying is the results of two different types of seasons, will have different results............meaning the teams that make the playoffs.

For example, Cam Cole suggests the Oilers are much better positioned to make the playoffs, than the Canucks are, with this sprint of 48 games. This would not have been the case if the season had started on time.

So IF the Oilers make the playoffs, and the Canucks do not, then the eventual winner would probably be different, than if the season started as scheduled.

Exactly the same - 16 playoff teams and 1 Stanley Cup Winner.

So the exact same 16 teams that would have made the playoffs if the season had started as usual, will make the playoffs with the now 48 game season.

So, after reading Cam Cole's column, you don't see any advantages the Oilers may have over the Canucks?
