It was expected with a slash to the groin area. IIHF doesn't waste time or mess around. |

Unlike the NHL, the IIHF doesn't go light on the supplemental discipline. That was a dirty move, and I don't know if you've never taken a shot to the cup before, but it still hurts. A lot.
He's lucky that's all he got, and he had better hope he doesn't get a reputation as a dirty player. If he did that in an NHL game, you'd be seeing a Lucic or a McGrattan or an Orr climbing over his team's boards after Gostisbehere's penalty expired to have a word with him on the true meaning of 'supplemental discipline'. |

I think I agree. A shot to the jewels is nothing to take lightly.

Serious reaction: "Absolutely supplement discipline. It was unwarranted and could have done some damage. Ghost did it with the intent to injure."
Personal reaction: "Matis is a joke. Takes two strides and then collapses almost as badly as Kris Letang. Guy gave him a chop between the legs, it's not like he's getting any anyway, amirite? Grow a sack, no worse than that time Giroux skated to the bench and chopped that Bruins' D-man in the back of the legs." |

Because it's the only way to get a call in most European leagues. If you try to fight through the check, the refs don't call anything even if you are obviously impeded. Go down and they make the call nine times out of ten.

Nice, sounds like he's making some noise. Good for him! Especially if the lockout is over soon, the phantoms will need some more depth. |

Unless it was in return for a like infrancton, that was a low class, stupid, immature move. |

We've seen Briere do it numerous times... Lots of guys pull that unfortunately. You might as well just slash the guy. Hurts just as much and while youll still get a penalty you won't really risk getting a misconduct or some nonsense. |

What happened to toughness, working hard, and ignoring the bs and not ask for the refs to bail you out? |

Soccer is unwatchable... just a bunch of wanna be athletes looking for handouts from the refs so they can get a bs goal |

talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill on that gostisbehere slashing penalty/ suspension, he barely touched the guy. and what's worse is if (frank)tard shanahan sticks around in his position he'll gladly use that against the flyers, he sure loves to hand out bullpoop suspensions against the o&b. |

Shanahan using this against the Flyers? A mountain out of a mole hill is right. |

Not trying to be mean or anything but really, it's not likely Ghost will even be sniffing the NHL these next few seasons and it's not like he laid a guy out with an elbow or anything. I don't know how an NHL disciplinarian would hold this against a young player down the line. |

Just for the record, there were 4 Flyers suspensions last year (Sestito and Shelley in the preseason, Rinaldo in the reg, and G in Round 2). There were 5 suspensions last year for infractions AGAINST the Flyers. If you want to argue the length/severity of the suspensions that's fine. But it's not like they were being victimized more than another team. From what I see, the most suspensions against any team last year was 5, against the NHL's favorite team, Phoenix (including 3 in the play-offs). |

That stuff happens a lot more frequently than people think. Hell i have been victim and have victimized people myself. Especially as a center... |

i thought rinaldo's and giroux's suspensions were iffy to say the least, the ones on sestito and shelley were undefendable. the pens deserved far worse than what they got discipline wise, heck i think crosby and malkin should have atleast gotten a meeting for constantly attacking giroux's wrists when it had nothing to do with the play. |
