somehow I knew that's what you would say....

When i met Dylan Olsen last week in Toronto i told how pissed i was at the players too...and he totally understood. No act by Bettman or anyone else will get me to pay for anything for a good long while.

I am with you...but you will watch and grace us with your posts.

Interesting stat from Chris Kuc. During the lockout the Hawks season ticket wait list increased by 250! The new arrivals were hoping to take the place of disgruntaled current season ticket holders who would walk away and give up their tickets.

Fan backlash....ahh I doubt it!

Hayes off the score sheet again.
- Al

Is he still playing center? I think it is time for him to go back to wing. I think he has been regressing. I still feel there is a lot of good, young players in the system. I still feel we need to change systems a little and roll 4 lines somewhat evenly. At least the top 9. I think the Hawks can be pretty competitive every year with guys like Danault, McNeill, Kruger, Saad, Hayes, and Teravainen added to Toews, Kane, Bolland, and Stalberg with Sharp and Hossa still having something left. Get a young goalie and I think we could do damage

At a 5% revenue growth rate the cap will be up to 89 million by the end of the CBA.40 some odd of these contracts out there. As long as a player doesn't retire too early, the cost won't be extreme. Also I think you will see more cases like Pronger and Savard. The long term injury loophole.
- eagle50

The problem with ltir is that the cap hit stays on the books all summer so it severely limits what a team can do in the off season.

Not only that, but a contract signed after age 35. Boston is going to take a $5M cap hit for a player not on the roster. I would think they would happily move him for a few used kleenex if they could. If another team could talk him into playing an abbreviated season...
- NewToHockey

Weren't the supposed to try to trade him to a team that needed a cap hit to get to the floor?

Or is that now gone in the new CBA?

Someone (Eli?) mentioned earlier in the thread that all teams are at least at the floor as of now. I didn't go through cap geek personally and check all the teams, but that would eliminate that possibility if true.

As he - and you, I, and everyone else here - should.

We're fans - we love hockey played by the bet in the world.

Fan backlash in Chicago - or Tor, Mon, Bos, Philly, other Canadian cities - probably not.

But Phoenix, Columbus, TB, Charlotte....

this hold any water?

seems like it could cause some problems down the line.
seems like it is a very stupid and very convoluted rule if in fact accurate.

Obviously the smaller market teams really yapped about these back-loaded deals (squeaky wheel gets the oil) and as the boss said that whacked Tommy, "and that's that".

Given Hoss is ready to go for this year - got my fingers crossed cuz there is no one in the system right now to back fill that slot - and can do two relatively healthy seasons, we're looking at one of these special buyouts come summer '14.

So enjoy it 'Hawks fans, we basically are going to have 1.5 seasons left to see #81...

very interesting....I wonder what wonder boy GM up in Minn thinks about his $200 mil 10 year blow out down the road if things don't quite work out!
- bogiedoc

GOOD point. Those deals are even more egregiously back-loaded than Hoss's.

I took the spreadsheet linked to one of the Committed Indian articles about Hoss and replicated it for Suter and Parise. Between 1 and 5 years remaining on their contracts, if either would retire, the Wild would be on the hook for anywhere between $5.0M & $6.5M cap hit each year after the guy retires!

Dallas sign and trade Jamie Benn for Sharp and Leddy?
- FourFeathers773

.....and Danault or Saad, maybe DAL would bite. Not 100% sure they'd want the younger puck mover type like Leddy (with holes but good upside) or closer-to-mid-aged shot blocker, more stay at home guy like Hammer (with lesser offence ability but a valued contract for 2 yrs).

Either way, the 'Hawks would have to sweeten the deal since Sharp is on the wrong side of 30 and beginning his slide. And guys like Pirri, Lalonde, etc won't cut it.

just to play devils advocate, sharp hasnt begun his slide

you can actually make the case sharp has gotten better with age and found some consistency the past few years

I still say Q should move Sharp to 2nd center if Bowman can't find one.

Agreed - I like him better there than Kane. I know there's a fear that if Toews was ever to go down Hawks have no one on their current roster to step in but Sharp has played that position really well - AND on a Stanley Cup team.

I'm not saying he's a straight up replacement in the centre position because there's not many that are in the league and I know Sharp seems to have put his foot down to moving to the middle but I think if all options are exhausted he'd do it for the team.
