The Phil Kessel trade has been a disaster.
- philco28

Absolutely. And that furthers my point that he was trying to win now, when they would have best been served by accumulating young talent within.

Also, I would be remiss if I didn't give a lot of credit to Rick Dudley as well for all the drafted players we hit on.

A post without the word PHUCKING!

Are we seeing a kinder, more refined Philco?

We may just be. I'll save my signature outrage word for special occasions only.

Ray Ferraro saying the Kessel trade put Toronto on an irreversible downward trajectory....CAN'T STAND motormouth, Captain Obvious Ferraro, but agree 1000 per cent on this point.

Funny thing is...i loved C2 as a rookie, but he tailed off badly last year and that playoff performance was UGGHHHHH.

Last season, Burke turned down trading Grabovski to Chicago for a 1st & prospect, and rejected a 1st RD pick for MacArthur from another team

JJ, do you know who this prospect was that was offered?

- FourFeathers773

I always liked Grabovski and was hoping we would get him. At the time i had no problem offering a 1st. But, Teravainen is looking like he could be an impact player. Plus we probably would end up picking even higher having Grabovski at the end of the season. Like they say, sometimes the best trade is the one you don't make

I would have said exactly this. At the time that would have been a great deal, but I think it's worked out better for us in the end (i.e. Teravainen).

this hold any water?

seems like it could cause some problems down the line.

Hammer and Kruger for Peverley straight up.

Boston solidify's the back end and grabs a role playing bottom six player, while th hawks recieve a guy that will fill nicely in the pivot and give them a sid PK guy. Not to metion Pev's has some high caliber skill as well.

Maybe going out on a little limb here, but to blithely say Brandon Saad will replace Marian Hossa is, well . . . you can finish the sentence.

One will be in the Hall of Fame. The other has 14 points in 26 games at Rockford. The kool-aid is flowing . . .

I brought this up last thread. I think it means hossa is a buyout in a couple seasons.

from the way I read it it is very complicated. Say Hoss plays out all but 2 years of his contract, even if the Hawks trade him, they get the penalty upon retirement since they signed him to the deal. Here is hoping Duncs plays out his contract too, or they may have the same problem with him. My question is, Who bites Jeff Carter's? Did philly sign him to that deal or Columbus. i think it was the Flyers. That would be Bryzgalov, Carter, and Richards to long term big deals I believe. Someone will have to do some research. Thinking if Hoss tears it up this year, he stays and becomes an amnesty buyout in 2014. If he is injured or not playing up to par (i.e. slowing down), Hawks buy him out this summer. Could wait to see if Teuvo T is ready by 2014 to come into the roster to replace him. It will be an interesting first couple of years. Pretty sure Olesz's contract expires in 2014.

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't?

I guess we'll know once the CBA is ratified. I've seen stuff about the cap benefit recapture formula, the cap hit for one way contracts in the AHL that come up to over $900,000, ect. The 300 Level had a post about Hossa and the cap benefit recapture formula posted a couple of days ago.

http://300level.net/?p=3882

One thing I wonder about is if there will be a penalty and/or cap hit for players that are loaned to European clubs. If there isn't some sort of provision for this, I would think that could become (or stay) a way to get around this.

If you think about it, when Hossa retires, he's heading back to Slovakia. Whatever time he has left on his deal could be played out for a club in that country, and it works out where the Hawks don't get saddled with a cap hit.

That is long as Hossa is still willing to play, and hiding him over in Europe like Huet would work at circumventing the cap.

By the time Duncan Keith will be considering retirement, either the cap will be high enough to absorb the hit, or there possibly could be another strike/lockout/CBA.

While you're at it, kick in a couple of 1st round picks and totally overpay for Peverley.

EDIT: ...and include Lalonde as well. Ogie will like that.

The only way this happens is if Stan is fired and we hire Brian Burke. He seems to enjoy re-stocking the Bruins.

Both Parise and Suter could probably still be playing hockey by the time another CBA rolls around, or the cap could be high enough then to make it a non issue.
