Cuz they can when both sides agree to it....if I understand it correctly the owners are penalizing themselves for thier stupidity with these contracts. The players signed will get their money as most of it is all frontloaded.

Teams will have non-cash cap hits, meaning they wont be able to sign (and spend money on) different players.

Griffins up early 2-0 tonight in Rockford (Sheahan & Raedeke).

Brendan Smith has been called up to Detroit... so the Hogs won't be seeing him anymore this season most likely. I have a feeling Nyquist will be called up next but we'll see.

Have the Hogs had any call-ups to Chicago yet ??

Burke got to be bigger in the media than the Maple Leafs as an entity. PO'd the Bell/Rogers suits for cussing & swearing in the boardroom and absolutely didn't want to do a Luongo for Jake Gardner & Nazim Kahdri deal.

One of my customers who is plugged in pretty good at the Air Canada Center swears Gretzky is on the horizon soon as President of the TML.

As far as Burke...I didn't always agree with his hockey philosphy but I always found him refreshing.

Plus anyone who helped put together the sale of the Dominicks Food Store Chain here a few years ago is a buisness hero. Top tick sale and I don't think the chain could be sold for 50% of the sales price today....But I digress.

At a 5% revenue growth rate the cap will be up to 89 million by the end of the CBA.40 some odd of these contracts out there.As long as a player doesn't retire too early, the cost won't be extreme.Also I think you will see more cases like Pronger and Savard.The long term injury loophole.

I think the NHL wants and needs Gretzky back in the league somehow. President of the Toronto Maple Leafs would be a good, high profile start.

Burke was going to be let go at the end of this season anyway - after the Leafs missed the playoffs again.

yep...a lose/lose scenario...if you are going to cut players share those cuts have to realized and this is one of the ways they did it.

Not only that, but a contract signed after age 35. Boston is going to take a $5M cap hit for a player not on the roster. I would think they would happily move him for a few used kleenex if they could. If another team could talk him into playing an abbreviated season...
