homer only goes after a vet guy like that if we're in contention come late march...so string some Ws together and let the speculation begin

Only time we were hassled up there was when the Flyers won (this was in the old building, mind you). Of course, one time we were there and my brother had popcorn thrown at him. It was so light and fluffy and dangerous!
- Flyskippy

i had a popcorn incident at msg which resulted in me vaulting over the back row of seats and chasing down a very shocked teenager on the concourse...

fluffy but still quite irritating

I tend to be overly optimistic, but I like how we played last game vs a potent team. Forwards supporting the d with simple plays getting it out of the zone.. solid PK and excellent goaltending. Keep that up and start getting a couple goals from forwards not named sestito and we may be in business.

I dont remember him struggling at all to be honest.

When healthy, he is easily our second best all around D-man. Kimmo then Meszy.

I dont think shoulder injury will have any lasting effect.

- jak521

Look at it this way. It is always about how the player responds. Meszaros was an iron man up to this point, correct? He has never had to respond to injury. Now we have to wait for this. Last season we felt Giroux was gonna play a level that put him at the top of the league with the other greats. Right now R has responded by struggling. The point is, you gotta do it. You have to.do it again before any assumption, which is hard to do.

He responded quite well to the back/Achilles tendon recovery until he was hurt in the Rangers game.

Aren't you making an assumption that he can't come back and play strong after his injury?

$4 mill for the rest of the year isn't bad. I would be interested if we could get him for a 4th or 5th.
- NickTheKid87

I wouldn't touch him.

I will say it again. He played four games. I have to see a lot more.

Purely speculative, but as an alternative name these days to Yandle being a trade option, I'd keep an eye on Goligoski if I were Homer. Being a healthy scratch was clearly just sending him a message by the coach, but a few more of those, he's in the doghouse, maybe he could be had?

Possible, but prior to being scratched he was leading the Stars in ice time. It seems a lot more of a case of a coach sending a message than a guy being on the outs.

and he had major shoulder surgery while a lightning, or while a bolt... whatever...

he had a slow start that following season and ended up getting traded

Right. Because the back and Achilles are connected to the shoulder.

Yup. Meszaros being one of the few bright spots of the first few games was a great surprise. That he looked sharper than most of the D really blew me away.

When he had the shoulder surgery in Tampa, he came back and won the Barry Ashbee trophy for best current defenseman here

I don't imagine they make him available, but definitely something to keep an eye on. No way they get equal value to what they gave up for him, maybe start the deal around Voracek for Goligoski. Jagr could continue his mentorship of Jake in Dallas

Both on tsn and sportsnet up here..everyone is still debating the Rinaldo fight..AAron Ward saying that Rinaldo will get his from all the other NHL enforcers, and Kypreos saying it was fine and that a fight is only over when it's over.

They are also debating a possible retribution fight in the Phoenix/Chicago game for the Torres hit..

So... besides the Flyers, I guess we have to root for Tampa, the Rangers, Buffalo, Washington, Carolina, and Winnipeg for the Flyers to best rise in the standings tonight.

A 3rd pairing of Mesz and Gus, with Gervais switching in and out as needed, is just fine with me. It becomes a numbers game if Homer makes a move using our forward depth for a #1-2 d-man at some point. Can't pay a #6 d-man 4mil a season. Grossmann or Mesz become the odd men out, if the move is made before the end of next season. Timonen, Schenn, Coburn, Player A, Mesz, Grossmann, Gus, Gervais (Player A being the d-man traded for). We'd have to either include a d-man in the deal for a #1-2 d-man, or make a subsequent deal to create the roster and cap space.
