Kassian has fallen from grace, no? - CanadianTom
not really. I like him a lot still, but unless he he can play centre and win draws it's better for him to play 20 min in the AHL then 7-10 min in the NHL. |

Then we have a centreman for you then ..... Wins about 55% of his draws. Prototypical 3rd liner, but has proven he can move up the lineup given the need to do so.

The rumor is that Perry wants more than Getz. If that is the case no way he can play for the canucks. Take a look at our cap situation thanks to MG for 2013/14. It is a mess. Take away 2 buyouts and Lu/Schneider and we only have like 13 mill for 10 players or something like that. Not sure what the exact number is.
We are in trouble next year as well. |

The team needs a bottom 6 centre not a botton 6 winger.
If you could move a winger for a centre then he stays, but Vancouver needs a centre bad. - IanEsplen
Friesen is clinging to an AHL spot by the skin if his teeth. Not even close to ready. |

Lets say Lu is traded and we buyout Booth and Ballard. That leaves us with 50million of salary for 11 players. The cap is 65mill. So essentially 15 million for 11 or 12 players. My guess is that Lu wont be just traded for picks and he will be traded for a warm body that makes at least 2 - 3 mill and if he is traded for a good player we are looking at 4 - 6 mill. So that leaves us with 10 - 13 mil for 10 players. Thats a lot of minimum salary guys on this team.
I just cant see how we will be good next year. This is all on MG. NOthing to do with AV |

I think more of the blame is on Gillis.
His job is to give the coach players he needs to win. in 2011 he gave AV the players to win and look what happened they went to the final.
If AV is fired I think Gillis should be right behind him. - TML93
It's more on AV. This team should be performing better as it stands now—AV is not even using the players he currently has properly, and hasn't tried a few options that are glaringly obvious.
Guy let's his ego do the coaching... |

Trade Schneider and keep Lou.
Lou is still a very good NHL goaltender, and Schneider I think would allow Vancouver to acquire younger assets and less salary coming back. |

Ah... yes someone finally figured it out... which is the very reason all the nonsense about trading Luongo for a kings ransom and no returning CAP hit was poppy-cock. Canucks need to add depth at center, all while reducing long-term CAP hit.
Mr. Gillis does indeed work in mysterious ways.
I suggested Luongo and Edler (prior to his signing) to Toronto for Komisarek, Gunnarson, MacArthur and 3rd round pick or similar. Maybe... just maybe that doesn't sound so crazy - albeit unappetizing to the Canuckleheads now.
Oh well - never mind.
.... trebles in the water. |

there's a slight problem with the "trade Lu" and buyout Booth and Ballard idea. Likely team ownership doesn't want to spend 17 Million dollars for nothing on the Booth and Ballard buyouts.... I'm just guessing. A secondly you are assuming that trading Lu is possible without taking any salary/CAP in return... which is VERY unlikely |

Friesen is playing his role well at the AHL level. I've seen him a few times and he brings exactly what you need in a fouth line player. He is decent on faceoffs, finishes his checks and will fight if he needs to.
Will he score much? No.
Is he a centre, who is defensivly responsible, works hard and is tough to play against? Yes.
He's not the ideal, but he is a lot better at fouth-line duty than Schroeder. |

If you HIre Lindy, plan on getting rid of Kassian for Good. Lindy saw how LAzy he played in Buffalo and wanted nothing to do with him. He was in the Doghouse before it was even built. |

He's actually not a lot better than Schroeder in a fourth line role. He's struggled there for most of the year (not surprising since he's a undersized rookie), and the consensus from most is that Mallett deserves the spot in the AHL and Friesen should be in K-zoo.
While Friesen may still see NHL games in the future, calling him up now would be a horrible move. |

No offense, but reality sucks sometimes. You are not going to get much for LU.....face the facts and move on. If you could land an organizations 3rd best prospect and a 2nd round pick, I'd take it. |

I don't care what they get for Lou, but I'm not ready to give up on Edler.
Besides, there was a lot of money coming back to the Canucks—there may not be a lot of teams willing to give up a lot for Lou, but don't kid yourself, if they just wanted him gone with no salary coming back, it could get done. |

ever wonder why it really hasn't gotten done?
Gillis has painted himself into a corner maybe... he has no CAP flexibility and turn around and signed his back-up to 4M per year... his boss(es) are going to can him when he approaches them for permission to buyout either Luongo (how many millions) and or Booth & Ballard.
repeat after me: Dead GM Walking.
