The Leafs will be fine next year. Komi and Liles will be gone. The following year, Tucker is finally off the books as well.
GMMG (or his replacement) has a lot more to worry about than Nonis. - Canuckleafer
How sad is it that Tucker hasn't played in like 4-5yrs and is STILL getting paid... |

Why the hell do people keep saying buyout Ballard? The guy when used as he should be has been one of the bright spots this year. AV has given Keith the reputation of being buyout worthy - claygolf83
Because....
Edler - 5.0
Bieksa - 4.6
Garrison -4.6
Hamhuis - 4.5
Ballard - 4.2
Tanev - pending RFA

Well, if it's any consolation, Ballard's 4.2 will be bought out.
That gives you 8 million with Malhotra,Raymond,Higgins,Lapierre,Alberts UFA's and Schroeder,Tanev,Weise and Sestito RFA's.
So you have 7 forwards, 4 d-men and your 9.33 million dollar tandem signed with 8 million in capspace.
Yeah.... - t_leafs21
Give it a rest, Vancouver will be fine.

Tell me about it, we'll have to be patient with the process to even get to the rebuilding process, first a couple of years of Calgary Flames 8-10th place finishes then hopefully they can start the Edmonton Oilers 3-5 year rebuild with lottery picks and be competitive about 10 years from now. - Nucker101
Just don't do what the leafs did.
Wait until you finally reach the Edmonton Oilers stage and trade your first round picks during it. |

Well, it's really all just speculation, maybe Gillis wanted that trade and Burke turned it down or the trade was agreed to and Luongo turned it down(but both he, his agent and Gillis deny this). If Gillis did turn it down and Luongo was willing to go to Toronto then obviously it loos like bad management right now, but at that time Kadri didn't look like he was maximizing his potential and Bozak looked like a 3rd line center for this team(plus they had Henrik, Kesler, Malhotra, Lapierre and plus Schroeder at that point and Bozak wasn't considered to be a big upgrade). Hindsight is 20/20.
Plus Gilman, the assistant GM is supposed to be a wizard with CBA loopholes and cap management so I'm guessing MG runs most of his moves by him so you have to figure that they're prepared to move either goalie and work with their limited cap space. - Nucker101
You mean like forcing a player into retirement and telling him he won't be released/traded to resume his career elsewhere so he better just "trust us", 'cuz we think it's in his best interest to never play the game he loves ever, ever again.

so who has to ask ownership for the permission to spend 50M$ on buyouts? is it going to be Gillis or Gilman? or their replacements? |

Regardless of cap hit, your telling me there is no team that wouldn't take Ballard off our hands? I think since coming to Vancouver from Florida Keith has been a whipping boy and sure he has had his stretches of less then stellar play but show me who hasn't? The system and the coach has effed him up bigtime IMHO |

Yeah possibly. But he has 2 years left. I guess you could aim for a mid- low pick to a team like the Islanders that will have some cap to burn. |

Yeah that one caught me off guard, if they truly cared about him then why let him play his first game back in a SCF against one of the most physical teams in all of hockey? Gillis and Aquillini definitely don't look like they're afraid to break a few rules. |

That tells me they're not as efficient with the cap as everyone thinks... and they're willing to be epic dirtbags to cover up their mistakes (which are starting to pile HIIIIIIGH). |

Maybe, but the Islanders will have plenty to choose from when it come to taking on salary in a trade this summer. If the salary cap and floor wasn't going down next year then Ballard would definitely be more attractive as a trade option fr other teams, but IMO a buyout is pretty likely at this point. |

Well that too.... IMO Gillis has gone downhill big time since last year with his "plan." I'm guessing the Hodgson trade and deciding to all of a sudden keep Schneider plus paying 4 left-handed defencemen over 4 million dollars per season was not apart of the original plan. |

There is absolutely no way that MG makes any moves right now (even though something needs to happen) just the reality of his tenure he is patient and calculated....Which may be the downfall of this team. Also they had better wake the poop up because if they are having problems this year just wait until next next year with their new division. |

Wouldn't be much of a problem if they replaced one of the lefties with a top 5 righty, that' the biggest issue IMO. Even more hilarious is that both of the depth signings, Barker/Vandermeer are also both lefties just like Alberts as well. |
