AV is the reason this team has no secondary scoring. Misuse of talent & zero clue about offensive chemistry is why this team can't score.
- DrChristianTroy

I just don't see how this team can rely on consistent secondary scoring without Kesler and Booth. Just not enough proven scoring ability after the top line.

AV needs to go, but no coach can turn this current roster(no secondary scoring, too many LHD's) into a contender.

I'd agree with this. It's Gillis that needs to pull his thumb out and find a 2nd line C (yes, 2nd not 3rd line C). Let Kesler be a true shutdown center with upside. I'm cool with dealing Schneider to get it.

It's almost the only option if they want any kind of a useful return.

I'm alright with it as long as the return is good, and they confirm that Lou will stick around for a while and no longer wants a trade.

I'm with you, at this point I think dealing Schneider makes more sense.

Who would you be targeting for a 2nd C? It would be hard to pick one up that would be cap friendly enough for next year without getting rid of a lot of salary.

Re-aquire Cody Hodgson with an RFA offersheet with a poisonpill clause.

Canucks might have to add a 2nd or 3rd rounder, and we all know how deep a draft it is this year.

Tough to say as it depends on who's realistically available. I'd kick the tires on Brandon Dubinsky. Good competitor and can put up points. Someone like Ryan O'Reilly would have been interesting. Stephen Weiss - he's done for the season but will be a UFA this summer. Then there are the younger guys - Couturier, Read, a few from Florida, etc who would be projects rather than immediate help.

Obviously I'd rather keep Schneider, all things being equal but Gillis isn't going to get much for Luongo at all and Schneider can likely fetch a top 4 D-man or a top 6 F.

I'm no cap or cba expert, but shouldn't the Canucks be banking up a decent amount of cap space with all the injuries this year?

They could just acquire the player and worry about dumping the extra salary in the summer.

I would have dangled Schneider is a package for Ryan but with the emergence of Faskth that's probably no longer possible.

Why is everyone obsessed with getting a return? Freeing up $5.3 in cap space for the next decade is enough return. Take that space and sign/acquire what you were looking for.

I hear what you're saying but quality, reasonably priced UFAs that are interested in your team/city are not exactly lining the streets. Having $5.3m on hand doesn't exactly guarantee you'll be filling that slot with a Bobby Ryan.

The FA market is horrible this summer, and trading for a top 6 foward or top 4 d-man under contract will probably require trading a top prospect like Jensen/Gaunce/Corrado and maybe more depending on which player and how young the player is.

Adding Bobby Ryan to a team backstopped by Luongo doesnt guarantee success either. Keep the younger, better, cheaper goaltender.. Then build your team the right way.

I think the Canucks will have close to 3 mil cap space at the deadline as of right now. But I was meaning cap space for next season. Do we acquire a rental or try to get a solid piece for the next few years. That was more my question.

You don't think Schneider will ask for at least Luongo $ cap wise next contract? So a savings of 1.3 mil for a couple years is negligible. The question is will Schneider be as good if not better than Lu in the years to come. If not, we get way more trading Cory than Luongo now. It's a gamble either way.
