completely agree with the less than consistent handling of suspension/non-suspensions.
I am surprised that being in the western conference you didn't include any one of the plethora of Kronwall non-suspendable offenses as additional video evidence. He gets away with because he goes into the hits butt first... but they are still blind side and in many instances charging.
Edler did no worse than Lucic on Miller. Miller, in the Lucic hit case, still had the presence of mind to swing his stick at Lucic, even though he was terribly injured ... a two or a five for charging was more than enough.
We can complain all we want about the edler suspension but if someone did that to Lu/Schnied id want them suspended for the season. We would all be on here b!tch!ng that he only got 2 games.

No one questions if it deserved attention or not . Shanny ,was once again inconsistent . Nash did not get called up to the office because NYR the biggest market are in the hunt for a playoff spot. His hit had a lot more intent than Edlers or Hansen.
Nash's hit was identical to Lupuls and should have had at least 3 games .
I really want Ian to include this in his next blog and discuss who is really handing out the suspensions. Shanny is a mere poster boy,
Jeremey Jacobs and the Bruins are in charge of discipline. Look at the track record of what they do and their punishment compared to if someone else does something to them (Aaron Rome) and the punishment.
Shanny for a while was becoming aggressive with his punishments and got called into the office and told to settle down,
Shanny as a player had balls , as a dean of discipline he is a gutless puppet who is told what to do if he wants a paycheck. Just another sign of who runs the NHL

George Washington used to grow cannabis in his garden and he was the owner of the largest whiskey distillery in the U.S.
Does this mean Bloated would make an excellent president?
I fully agree on Shanny's bias and inconsistency. And what makes it worse is that it gets pinned on Shanny, but there is actually a commitee that discusses it. The rulings are terrible.
Nash got away with it because as you said...It's Nash. Just like other players that get preferential treatment. Weber has gotten away with a number of suspensions. Because its Weber and it's Nashville...
The rulings are a joke. The explanations are a joke. The explanations actually make it even worse, because they completely ignore the rules and the video evidence in most cases.

It's also, because it's the Rangers and they're on the outside, looking in. I wonder if it would have been different, if the Rangers were 10 points up, in the standings? This smells of league nepotism.
Just listening to the explanation from Shanaban on Nash makes you sick - nbboy
Would you not respect the NHL more if Shanny just came out and said "Rangers are the biggest market and in a playoff race ,we can not suspend their best scorer at this time."

I'm not sure what hits you were watching, but those were in no way identical.
I was at the leaf game that night and right away I said Lupul will get suspended for that hit. Hedman was standing straight up and for a pretty tall guy he still took a shoulder to the chin.
As much as I agree that the league has been inconsistent, I really didn't see Nash's hit being that bad.
People see a helmet fall off and think a hit is worse than it is. Did he make contact with his head, yes, but not until after he had made principal contact to his upper back.
I think that the first thing the NHL needs to do is remove injury as a factor in determining punishment. In the Nash case, Kopecky is pretty lucky that he did not sustain any head trauma when his helmet came off. What if the angle had been just a bit different and the force of Nash coming down on him had driven his head into the ice and he had sustained a career ending head injury? The plays are no different, but the results are drastically different. That's what makes this all look like such a coin flip.
I agree, the video for Edler's hit basically says that he didn't mean to hurt him, the head was not the principle point of contact (or a target) but that it was a penalty as Edler did not try to avoid the collision. Should have been 0 games based on this video.
I wonder is Smith will start in net the next time Phoenix plays, they aren't on until Monday, with no travel...?
