I would disagree that he hasn't been any worse then Coburn. Play Foster in the same spot and same role that Coburn is in. See what happens. - MJL

And pay him 2M a year, with the Flyers having 3M available in cap space right now for next year. But he's advocating firing Holmgren. - MJL
Yes.
Doug Murray is a veteran NHL defenseman. He must be better than Foster/Gervais/Gustafsson because of that.
I'll ignore the fact that he's worse at moving the puck than all of them and is pretty much a poor man's version of Nic Grossmann just because I'm feeling my oats and want to troll the Meltzer blog |

This makes no sense. You realize the NHL has a salary cap now, right? In order to remain relevant for years, you have to be able to draft really well. Any team is capable of drafting superstars, whether the team has huge contracts or not, because these "superstars", i.e. rookies, are on entry-level-contracts--which at the most is under one million dollars. Furthermore, ELC's are three year deals--so a team has really three years to decide on these "superstars" or not. If they like them, chances are the veterans, those who have the huge contracts, are able to be shipped out. If not, these "superstars" would have to go, meaning that if they are top-level talent, the team is going to get a nice return.
This is instrumental for ever single team in the NHL nowadays--but hell, even before the salary cap world--you had teams like the Red Wings and Devils just have fantastic scouting teams doing great things for them.
As for your second point, you're completely missing our side of the argument. In order to pick up Murray from the Sharks you would have to give something up for him, obviously. Since Murray is a free agent, and there is only 15 games left, there's no point in trading assets for him. - KGBflyers10
I was referring to the penguins. Not us. Whatever though. You guys refuse to allow any other opinions on here outside of the "group" opinion.

Going into next year where chances are we dont sign any of are UFA's and probably two buyouts including Briere which is another 6.5 mil cap hit...My question is in two years when B.Schenn,Giroux, and Coots are all RFA and Read is UFA.... We may lose Timonen's hit, but I dont think the cap is going up that much... - nonpoint22
I think the Cap is going to go up a lot after next Season. It will go back into the 70+M range after next year. |

When did i say to get Iggy?
You comment my posts without even reading my original post? So you really just disagree with everything I say regardless of what my point was?
Yup.. sounds like hockeybuzz. - Flyersgod
Even Morrow, he's another impending UFA. Same argument. |

You trolled me. Nothing new though... |

They would probably be in last place in the Division if that happened. - PLindbergh31
I still like Coburn. Yeah he's not playing to the potential he could be. But I don't want to see him moved unless we have an amazing deal in place. And I do think he's better than Foster. We all know he's a solid 3 - 4 guy with flashes of #2 if he has a solid partner. Asking him to play #1 minutes and situations is exposing him. |

They gave up assets for a Hall of Fame player in Iginla. Granted he's not at the same level anymore, but he's still a damned good player. Holmgren gave away assets last year for Kubina's corpse. - PLindbergh31
Agreed, but I was referring to all three deals they made..I love iginla and I think Morrow is a good locker room guy but neither of these guys are in their prime anymore, and for Douglas Murray, well no comment cause I cant say anything nice about him anymore...wait heres one " he would fit in great with are defensive corp" oh wait thats not a compliment |

With Gus and McGinn in the lineup, when does either of Brandon Manning or Oliver Lauridsen get a look see? |

The Penguins can add depth to their team because they have cap space. They have a ton of money, and a ton of assets that they can afford to give up for a playoff push. They have two of the best players in the game, and a team that is primed for a Stanley Cup run. After a disappointing finish to last season, you know the players, and more importantly, management, want to make a long run into the playoffs. In order to do that, you need to beef up your team: hence why they added Morrow, Murray, and now Iggy. The Penguins aren't concerned with with draft picks or prospects for the most part because they have a core of players that are in their prime. This what teams do when they have a chance, they take risks in order get the maximum result--see the Philadelphia Phillies since 2007.

Honestly with a list of 4 teams (and apparently only 3 submitted trade offers) and the fact even tho there was a list of 4 teams, Iginla vetoed a move to Boston, there was only so much Calgary could get.
the timing to Briere's concussion is just so (frank)ing frustrating! so is it worth keeping Briere for one more season and see how next year goes knowing you can always amnesty him next summer as well? maybe at the deadline next year they could move him (if he of course waives the NMC). - nastyflyergirl
Even with that 4 team list, he really turned it into a one team list. The Flames and Bruins agreed to a trade for him and he refused to waive his clause to go to Boston.
As much as Feaster's a bad GM, he kind of got screwed by Iginla here.
It's not worth it to keep Briere. If he's cleared to return by the TDL and somebody gives you a pick for him take it and be happy. If not, buy him out, clear the cap room and use it to get a defenseman.
He's creating a logjam, unfortunately. |

Would you trade the Flyers 2013 1st round draft pick, Nick Cousins, and Brandon Manning for Jarome Iginla?

Good question. Our answers mean poop. It's Homer's call... And if I knew what he is thinking I'd be getting paid a great deal more... |

I havent read any of the previous pages but if it didnt already happen i would like to say the Pens are the new "dream team". Hopefully that works as good as it did for the Eagles. |

I don't think they wait on the Briere buyout. His cap hit is just too huge with the cap so low for next season. I think they hold onto Bryz though... |
