Fine, I'll wear my helmet.
EDIT: Off topic, but I learned the importance of wearing a helmet at hockey last night. I lost an edge and gave the boards a little smooch, thank the Lord I had a helmet and a cage. |

No. I don't think so.
I feel like there is a kernel of something good here (young forwards) whereas that year was, as Bill and JSaq have said, a clear case of the Flyers trying to win a previous year's Cup.
This year feels a bunch of hunches by Holmgren that were played and he didn't hit on any of them and it cost the team greatly in a shortened season.
I'm not saying status quo is the way to go (I've been pretty vocal about Laviolette), but I think there is more to work with here than during '07.. - johndewar
I agree. On top of what I feel is a bad coaching job, there are a lot of players that are having down years that can reasonably be expected to rebound.
Had Coburn played this way throughout an 82 game season, I'd be a lot more worried. But he came in rusty and has been playing catch up all season and has been utilized poorly. They're asking him to anchor a pair and assume a more complete role.
But you add a Bouwmeester to this mix, you can run him and Schenn, Timonen and Coburn and then Grossmann and Meszaros. Hell, even adding a guy like Joni Pitkanen and playing more disciplined would give them a really solid top six, with guys filling the proper roles for their abilities.
Even a guy like Hartnell. He didn't play, then 3 games in breaks his foot. He sees the team needs him and returns two weeks before his original estimate. I doubt he's 100%, either in conditioning or injury wise. He should rebound with a summer off to heal and a full camp in September. |

I agree.. in fact, I will be very surprised if they make ANY moves. - jak521
Why would they hold onto impending UFA's like Gagne, and Fedetenko? |

Well that's probably what Calgary would ask for, and that's what the poster didn't understand--you have to give up assets for these players--it makes sense if you're trying to make a playoff run, but for a team like the Flyers it makes no sense for 15 games. - KGBflyers10
I can see them asking for the two players you named, but the pick is what is pushing it .....if it was a lower round then it would be more in the ball park....I know they wanted a 1st, but the teams that were on his list that was a late first...we could of probably packaged some lower picks....that being whats the point debating something were never gonna know the answer too |

Giving away draft picks for a mediocre, 33 year old defenseman when you have no chance of making the playoffs would be insane. - Feanor

They would need to replace them with players, and I dont see Wellwood and another Phantom coming up to fill in the roster.
Honestly.. I think the org. has way too much pride. |

I will take intelligence over pride every day of the week. Hanging on to guys who aren't under contract next year, when you can acquire some future assets is bordering on the retarted. |

Even with that 4 team list, he really turned it into a one team list. The Flames and Bruins agreed to a trade for him and he refused to waive his clause to go to Boston.
As much as Feaster's a bad GM, he kind of got screwed by Iginla here.
It's not worth it to keep Briere. If he's cleared to return by the TDL and somebody gives you a pick for him take it and be happy. If not, buy him out, clear the cap room and use it to get a defenseman.
He's creating a logjam, unfortunately. - Jsaquella
yep he really did. Calgary is a mess. that first round pick will be 28-30 too but its something.
yeah I know you are right. just irritated they probably won't get anything for him. I want to see this team restock the farm and was hoping to get some prospect/pick for him. |
