That's the cherry on top. Plus we only have to deal with 48 games of suck, not 82.
- Jsaquella

True that. I've been writing the season off as a schduleing glitch anyway.

here's a question...do you buy out Meszaros?
- sarmen25

Nope. Buying out a guy with one year left on his deal is a waste of a compliance buyout.

While I wouldn't lose sleep if they replaced Holmgren, overall I think he's done a good job
-his rebuild of the 06-07 disaster was fantastic, did anyone think in June of 2007 that the Flyers would be conference finalists the following year?
-The Pronger deal was a good deal, there was no way anyone could have predicted Pronger taking a puck to his eye to end his career. Yes he was 34 at the time of the deal, but so what. He was one of the top 3 defenseman in the game at that point and the Flyers NEVER come within 2 games of a cup in 2010 without him.
-The Bryz contract to me is on Sniders head, not Holmgrens, Snider forced him into that deal

While you can certainly fault him for the lack of D, its hard to blame him when Suter supposedly signed for less in Minnesota and Nashville matched a contract that most experts thought they could never afford to match. Personally, I'm glad he didn't resign Carle to a huge deal and by the time the Weber offer fell through, he didn't have a lot of options.

While I do fault him for failing to acquire an adequate backup goalie and a legit 4th line center who can win a faceoff once in a while, I think overall he has earned the right to be given at least one more season to see if he can right the ship.

If he's deemed healthy, I strongly consider it. With the caveat that there has to be a solid plan in place to replace him. But first I'd try and trade him.

I hate that we suck this year, but this team can be likened to the Habs last year. Look at how getting their top dman Markov back has helped that team. I think the young core is solid, and Bryz has been just fine IMO. We get a top pick, a top dman somehow, and I think we are back in business. Homer can't strike out this summer on replacing Pronger..however.
- Hextall271

It's an interesting analogy. Bergevin's done a great job so far. Even his trade of Cole for Ryder's been a good one for the Habs

I'd trade Hartnell for Edler right now. I'd do it even if they had traded Read for Bouwmeester.

Doubt Vancouver or Winnipeg would do it, but those guys would be good additions to the Flyers

- Jsaquella

I saw the Canucks blogger list guys he wanted for their team.
Hartnell was on the list, with about ten other unrealistic names.
Plus Hartnell with the Sedins could work (in theory).

Made me think about Edler.

He'd have to simply be cleared to play. For all we know it's a mild concussion and he'll be back soon.

I will be in Warminster, drinking cold beer and laughing at all the poor bastard Comcast guys who didn't think ahead and have to work the worst weekend in the world.

The last few Memorial day weekends, I have piled up 14 & 16 hour days like crazy. I'm drinking beer and watching baseball this year

- Jsaquella

Right about now, drinking beer and watching baseball sounds amazing. Hell, I'd pay good money just to drink one beer out in the sun in warm weather right now.

They will be UFAs this summer, as will Jagr. Make the pitch then, why trade assets?
- Jsaquella

we have already been trading assets for players "rights" several times.. so we get first dibbs to resign them..

we have even flipped a players rights when we couldnt resign them and gotten assets back (from pens) if memory serves me right.

this is no different.

Any ideas of trading Coburn for picks and prospects are out the window with Mez's health a question mark.

Just have to hope he gets spotted in a better role and bounces back next season.

I always say look at Anaheim. They went from good to suck and are now doing pretty good. Almost the same players with minor changes (including yes a coaching change). It is amazing how much a couple of bad games or a bad start, or key injuries, can swing a season. Especially a shortened one.

Yes, and that's a practice that I dislike. Besides, if they traded a 1st rounder for Iginla and he didn't re-sign, you think they could trade him at the draft for a first rounder?

I'm willing to bet Briere is fine by the end of the season. It is much better for him financially to be bought out and become a free agent. He is only scheduled to make 5 million in actual salary the next to years. If he gets bought out, he gets around 3.3 million over the next 4 years, plus I'm pretty sure he will get at least a 2 year 5 million deal from someone. So basically if he gets bought out he will probably make an additional 3.3 million.

Especially when you have Bryzgalov's contract. Gotta save one buyout to use on him in 2014 if necessary.

no it's not just trade him and bring up some scrub from the AHL and draft someone and suck until you have a proper team and coach to play with
