they have to trade one of their forwards to get a top D man this summer and get another defenseman in the draft this year who with good luck and patience could step in 3 years or so...

with Mezzy hurt they need viable defenseman like Coburn for the next few years.

I haven't given up on Gus being a legit 3rd pair guy, and who knows maybe Bourdon recovers from his conky and could be another legit 3rd pair guy. Maybe not, then Homer has to shore up the third pair.

But Kimmo, Coburn, Grossmann, L Schenn and trade for a real puck mover as the top 5, and they will be OK next season.

Im worried about when kimmo leaves....thats a big hole

I have a weird feeling Homer is going to end up trading for Joni mini stick for his encore with the Orange and Black.

I guess stranger things have happened.

- Marc D

Tht wouldn't suck. He's become a solid top pair defenseman in the NHL.

If a team like Chicago wants to give up Leddy for Talbot, I think the Flyers have to do it (or something similar).

But they need Couturier to be that guy, and have Talbot used on his wing, if he's still here (he's just not a good center).

Big fan of Boyd Gordon. He's great in that role.

- bradleyc4

I like all of this.
Not sure Talbot alone gets Leddy but hey, why not?

Gagne/Couts/Talbot should be a great two way third line, when Couts gets his confidence and game back.

No, I don't believe they can get Leddy for Talbot either. Just saying that's the type of overpayment they could accept.

how does he feel about having a great energizing shift for the team and then not seeing the ice again for 15 minutes?

yes agree

they need to bite the bullet and trade a forward for a top 4 puck mover defenseman who can quarterback the PP, and hope they get another one with their high pick in this draft that can step in in 3 years.

With L Schenn and Grossman to pair as the shut down guys they have part of the equation already. But the other half, the guy to replace Kimmo is the harder part.

It is going to cost them a top six forward and maybe more but they have to do it for the right guy. The UFA class the following year might provide someone also.

Homer has likely been working towards this all season.
You just hope he makes the right deal.

The sad thing about this rebuild is the fact that the Flyers are going to have to move pieces around just to get something really good. If we want that franchise D-man that we all crave, Couturier, Schenn is going to have to go. Drafting a d-man will take patience and time (neither of which the fan base or the organization have) and there are no great D-men on the free agent market.

I think we hit the early 90's to be honest.

Got tickets to the game tonight, few rows behind the glass too... #joy

Yea my Bryz hating cousin texted me back eventually...

I guess the one thing I can take solace in is seeing some future stars in the infancy of their careers. Hopefully they break my double digit consecutive loss when attending streak... Hopefully

M4 (my son) is going to the game with my mom tonight (Mom-in-law and my wife will be home getting MiL's house ready for the baby shower). I'll tell them to look for the crazy guy in Flyers gear a few rows behind the glass. They might eventually find you.

M4 has a crazy win streak thing going on when he goes without me.

I'd keep Couts and the kids and maybe try to move Hartnell for the right D man.

Its just as painful as Harts is a big piece, great locker room guy, and 25 goals/season top line winger. But he may bring back the needed defenseman. He has huge value right now, but maybe not forever.

Also I think Hartsy will start to decline in his production at some point, and with Couts and Schenn they are still on the upswing.
