Tanking to get a better draft pick is a disgrace and total lack of respect for the game. Why not just use performance enhancing drugs and illegal equipment. Professionals should be playing to win or not at all. Thereby the fans ought to be rooting to win or watching a TV series. - JoeRussomanno
I was at the game tonight and the crowd including myself were cheering for the Flyers. I think the players played hard tonight but this year has just been a disaster.
Well.. 'twas the reason he came to Earth. And that was His pattern. To lay His life down and have His followers do the same, to the glory of His Father.

My mom and my son were at the game. They said it was a good crowd. They got on the Flyers when they failed to clear at 5-on-5 at one point, but for the most part were quite positive.

The entire 3rd period was pretty much played in the Flyers end.

Did you see how excited they were when they scored the tying goal? They were so fired up you'd have thought they just earned a berth into the post-season.
To me, there's just a chemistry problem with this team...on top of the elephant in the room - the sub-par and mightily injured D.

That is true. The fanbase was in full support tonight. People were going nuts when they scored to tie the game with under 20 seconds to go.

Team D and the "sub-par and mightily injured D" go hand in hand. Put those together with an over-aggressive game plan and silly/stupid decisions with the puck, and you have this year's lackluster Philadelphia Flyers.
Therien was saying the 2nd and 3rd periods were abysmal compared to the effort the Flyers gave in the 1st. There's just so much wrong. - Flyskippy
They're just not a team right now. Just a collection of players and talent. No cohesion, and they're very fragile. But it's not permanent. It's like there's a virus running through the team. They just need the right antibiotics.

The point being that tanking, enhancing drugs, and illegal equipment are all ways to get ahead - whether immediate or eventual. - Flyskippy
Fly, don't take me seriously, bud. I'm at peace with what the Flyers are and am looking forward to improving youth, draft picks, and trades.
At some point you just have to shrug.
And seriously, arguing about 'tanking' is nearly as futile as arguing about 'systems', because the Flyers are bad enough and hurt enough to where they don't need to set out to tank, it will likely be the end result of any effort. And even if they do set out to tank, who is going to be able to prove it?

They seem to be going through the motions. They look like a team thats playing games in the preseason. Thats the way it felt there tonight.

It's really all you can ask for when you're in a league where, were all things equal, your team has a 3.33333% chance of winning the Cup any given year. You hope for the best. The Leafs found it much easier to win Cups when there were only 6 teams. That's 5 times more of a chance then than now.
Oh, please, by all means let's just say he's going to come in and make an immediate impact so as to not have to say we were wrong later when he's sent to the minors. I mean, no one on this thread has ever been wrong. We can pontificate and predict freely because it never gets documented or remembered when the predictions are so far in the future over a subject so dynamic that no one really cares about what was said three weeks ago, let alone six months or 5 years. - Flyskippy
I care...I remember...I document. No but really...I do.

Because performance enhancing drugs and illegal equipment would likely be counter-productive to tanking? - wolfhounds
No because they insult the very foundation of sports, to compete at your best, to honor all that you worked for up until that point so that it culminates into a victory. If it doesn't then your opponent is given the honor of defeating a foe who has played their best. If teams are just gonna tank to move up and down in standings for the hope of gaining a player who NOBODY knows will even become a regular at the pro level then that corroded the very nature and purpose of sports just like peds because its cheating and in this case, cheating to get a player you have no idea what he will become. Pretty stupid to behave in such a manner in hopes of being able to take such a risk.

I didn't see overly aggressive...but I did see plenty of horrible passes and bad puck decisions in every zone. One more blind backhand pass to nobody and I was going to have to move on to liquor.
