Fly, don't take me seriously, bud. I'm at peace with what the Flyers are and am looking forward to improving youth, draft picks, and trades.
At some point you just have to shrug.
And seriously, arguing about 'tanking' is nearly as futile as arguing about 'systems', because the Flyers are bad enough and hurt enough to where they don't need to set out to tank, it will likely be the end result of any effort. And even if they do set out to tank, who is going to be able to prove it? - wolfhounds
looking at the nxt 5 gms...they don't have to tank. they'll be lucky to win one...and when bryz finally gets a rest...oh boy
I didn't see overly aggressive...but I did see plenty of horrible passes and bad puck decisions in every zone. One more blind backhand pass to nobody and I was going to have to move on to liquor. - wolfhounds
Laviolette has changed his forecheck the last few games. Too little too late. Should have been done a month or two ago.

Not of late, no. They've reeled the over-aggression in the last week or so.
Tanking to get a better draft pick is a disgrace and total lack of respect for the game. Why not just use performance enhancing drugs and illegal equipment. Professionals should be playing to win or not at all. Thereby the fans ought to be rooting to win or watching a TV series. - JoeRussomanno
I can't go as far as not rooting for the team to win, especially when watching a game...but I can compartmentalize it to the point where I can also rationalize their poor performances as a means to helping them to finish as low as possible for draft purposes. It's a weird feeling...but it's just where things are at for some of us fans I guess.

I was at the game tonight and the crowd including myself were cheering for the Flyers. I think the players played hard tonight but this year has just been a disaster. - stveshdy
I was there too. Yes the crowd did bring a substantial amount of cheer for the home team. The dramatic goal late in the third set them off. Having been to my second game this year has really opened my eyes to how out of whack this team is tho. They are so damn lost and so predictable it is scary. Added to the injuries piling up I hope this doesn't rattle the psyche of these young players and really forcing a nuclear bomb on the roster. There is a substantial amount of blame to go around in that locker room but the style of hockey being played is overly bland and trying to hard to do something that isn't working.
No because they insult the very foundation of sports, to compete at your best, to honor all that you worked for up until that point so that it culminates into a victory. If it doesn't then your opponent is given the honor of defeating a foe who has played their best. If teams are just gonna tank to move up and down in standings for the hope of gaining a player who NOBODY knows will even become a regular at the pro level then that corroded the very nature and purpose of sports just like peds because its cheating and in this case, cheating to get a player you have no idea what he will become. Pretty stupid to behave in such a manner in hopes of being able to take such a risk. - JoeRussomanno
I get it. I was being ironic. At this point in time, with the season and the team being what they are, I just can't get all that worked up about it. Coburn's injury was the cherry on top of the poop sandwich.

At some points tonight Joe it definately felt like an exhibition game. I dont mean that from the fans b/c they wanted to cheer and get excited. This team just seems to coast and it really doesnt provide a spark. They just dont have "it".

I hear ya, it's frustrating and numbing. It's why I hope it doesn't infect this team so badly there's a carryover. Just a feeling with nothing to substantiate that concern I suppose.

I'm afraid there's still time for the poop to continue piling...
Im hoping this $poop$show, abortion of a season weighs heavy on the hearts and minds of the players and their sense of pride to the point where they resolve to do whatever is necessary to not go through it again. You've got to lose to know...how to win. Dream on.

I agree that is a real concern if the word was passed down to lose on purpose. F that.
As I said above, it's my opinion this team lacks a real veteran leader...not just a strong veteran presence (like Kimmo), but a leader (Pronger, Hatcher, Foppa, Primeau, Lindros, etc.)

Most definitely. The flyers and no disrespect to the islanders, beat themselves tonight as they have in several games. A simple effective breakout just doesn't exist for them. I watched all three pairings and all four lines unable to get the puck out unless they could catch the islanders with their pants down or the puck just bounced over an islander stick. It seems like too much to ask for those simple things and then the energy just isn't there for 60 minutes. Don't get me started on the dump and chase. I see this as a screaming reason to change the head coach.

I want to watch and see which guys are still working hard, and which ones still get pissed. Claude Giroux was pissed tonight and he was laying it out. Great to see. Others were as well.
When all that's left to play for is pride, the fighters and battlers will play as hard as they can.
Let the ashes of this mess sit in their mouths. They'll come back ready to go to war, and they'll be focused and hopefully ready to funnel that anger into a focused storm.
