So he isn't an upgrade over Gervais, Foster, or Gus?

Could have tried him out for the rest of the year to see if he's worth keeping. We need D help. I'd rather Murray then the bottom pairing we have atm.

What do you think you could sign Murray for?

Can't wait to take a dump in the pens thread when we win the draft lottery and the rangers beat them in the 1st round

Depth for a playoff run. You really need at least 8 NHL capable defenseman if you expect to make a long Cup run. Possibly even more.
- MJL

Using that logic, and us agreeing he is a capable dman, doesn't the fact that we only have 4 NHL capable Dmen kinda add to our need for a capable dman?

We aren't making the playoffs this year. We never were. But what about next year? We still have the same holes we had at the start of the year.

So the Flyers only have to add 5 in the off-season.
- PLindbergh31

You need that for a playoff run. Not for the regular Season.

True story:

1990 - the future Mrs. Wedgie and I had gone out for a "nice dinner" while at university (in Kingston, Ontario). So we are walking back from the restaurant, wondering what to do for the evening. We walk by one of the more popular bars in downtown Kingston - typical dance bar, but they did have a little room up front which was their sports bar. The sandwich board out front said they had the Tyson-Douglas fight on - cover of (iirc) $5.

So I say to the future Mrs. Wedgie, "How about you let me watch Tyson punch out this tomato can - shouldn't take more than 15 minutes, and then we will go to the dance bar." She agreed.

After one round, I ran to the pay phone (kids: there was a time when we didn't have cell phones) and phoned my university housemates - you have to get down here right now - Tyson is going to lose. One guy said he couldn't be bothered, the other guy hoped in a car and was at the bar for the start of round 4.

So the fight is unbelievable, of course. But the bar was pretty empty - nobody had cared about the fight. At the end, me, the future Mrs. Wedgie and my buddy are jumping up and down, screaming, high fiving each other - one of the most exciting sporting events I've ever watched.

And then the bartender turns the TVs (all of them!) to a hockey game. WTF?!?!?!

I plead with him - this is the greatest upset in boxing history - can we please watch the post-fight interviews and analysis?

The bartender says, "sorry, but the way our satellite system works, we can't show two different things - we only have one receiver.

"And see that old guy sitting in the corner? That's Kirk Muller's dad, and he wants to watch his son play hockey. "

- Atomic Wedgie

I guess Mueller's dad held more sway....I remember my dad didn't want to pay to see the fight, because he was tired of spending money for fights that didn't last as long as the pre fight intros.

I dunno. I thought del zotto would get more and reily get less.. everything is weird this year in terms of salary.

at 32/33 years old prob 1.8-2.2 million for what he brings. Little bit more then we pay Walker to do nothing.

Foster and Gervais are capable of playing in the NHL, as is Gustafsson. The Pens got Murray for a playoff rental. Not to be a regular in their lineup going forward.

I would have zero interest in adding Murray going forward on this team.

Murray is an impending UFA as with Iggy. Why would you give away prospects or draft picks for 15 games? That's so pointless.

And how much are they paying Gervais and Foster? You'd be insane to pay Murray that much.

This debate can't continue. You think foster and gervais are capable, I say they are not. There in lies the root of the issue.

DLR actually says this in the breakdown of that song:

I like the way the line runs up the back of those stockings. I've always liked those kind of high heels, too.

If you want to quote lyrics, it at least helps to get them right.

Just sayin'.

And not for nothing, what in Hell does this have to do with the Flyers?

- Rliable

My fault... I compared our D to fishnet thigh highs... Full of holes, distracting, and delicate. And it went downhill from there.

Insane to pay purray 2.2 million to play, but not insane to pay Walker 1.7 and gervais and gus as well to do what little they do?

He's saying they are capable for now. It's doubtful either of them will be contributors to the Flyers next season. There is no point in giving away assets for the remaining games this season.

I'd seriously start Leighton tonight. I want Mackinnon Drouin or Jones.

Foster and Gervais are fringe NHL players at best. They certainly aren't regulars on a good team. Flyers are an awful team, it's acceptable for them to play.

Pittsburgh is the prohibitive favorite, no doubt. But to say it's not close, simply isn't true. When you play the team game that Boston plays, you have a very good chance. The best team wins, not the best collection of players. The Flyers are a perfect example of that. They have a lot more talent then a bunch of teams ahead of them in the standings.
Last year, who would've picked the Kings and Devils in the Finals? Did the Devils have the best roster? It's about who is playing the best, and who gets' hot. As we saw last year, A Goalie can get on a roll, and lift a team.

- MJL

I understand.. but I am saying that the best TEAM right now is the Pens.. and adding a few TEAM players... one world class, and the other the gritty do it all type you need... only helps.

Walker isn't even on the team! They signed Foster due to inury. And Gervais is a 6/7 defenseman. Do you even know what they're paying Foster and Gervais?

Depends on what they wind up doing with the 2nd round pick.

I'm not a murray fan. Just pointing out that we have to give up our first born sons to get average players.

I know this sounds childish, but my favorite player not wearing orange and black is a Penguin . I was just getting alright with the idea of rooting for the bruins in the playoffs this year, but the penguins is impossible

I agree systems also play a big role...Lavy's system as we have all seen, shows more holes than you would see at a asian massage parlor...

It would be nice to be able to call up a young guy to come fll a role, rather than relying on the likes of Lilja, gervais, foster.

- Philly1980

I gave the system talk a pass early in the year, because the execution was horrible the first few games, and it was obvious that there was a lot of rust. But after awhile, it became very obvious that the team lacked discipline and needed the coaching staff to make adjustments. They made subtle changes, but they had little effect.

My issues with Laviolette are well documented here.

They are the best team right now. But other teams such as Chicago and Boston are close. There is not a huge gap between them. On paper they made some great moves. We'll see what happens.

You would make Mike Milbury look like the greatest GM ever in the game with these posts.
